Without doubt the most important qawwal is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Party-- Party is a generic term for qawalli ensemble but is also used in Sinkhism and to describe some classical musical ensembles, for example shehnai maestro Bismillah Khan and party. Dubbed Shahen-Shah-e-Qawwali (The Brightest Star in Qawali), In 1971, Nusrat took over from his father (Ustad Fateh Ali Khan) as a leader of the Party after experiencing recurring dreams that he was singing at the famous Muslim Shrine of Hazrat Khwaja Moin-u-Din in Ajmer, India. He was so popular that in 1979 he was invited to sing at the wedding of Rishi Kapoor, son of actor/director Raj Kapoor in front of prominent members of the Bombay film industry. Nusrat's popularity extended worldwide is evidenced by the fact that Peter Gabriel was his great admirer. He passed way on August 16, 19976 in London due to kidney failure. His sudden death robbed the world of one of its finest voices.

British Asian Music has been going since the late 60's , why hasn't it gone mainstream like Hip Hop and R'nB, which were originally American Sounds but have been very successfull.

I am in my early 20's so i wasn't around when it all started, but i have some of my dad's old records dating back to the 1960's of artistes like the music of R.D Burman, sounds of Kishore Kumar, who in their times where very successful in a "expanding community". British Asian Music as evolved a lot since the 60's, going from traditional to a more diverse cosmopolitan sound, so why is it having problems reaching a non-asian market? Artistes like Bally Sagoo, Babyloon Zoo, Apache Indian, Talvin Singh and couple of other artists have managed to cross into the mainstream but why is it that the likes of Karsh Kale, or B21 has yet to do this.

I would personally say that other British Asian artists who are making a positive effort and those associated to the so called "Asian Underground", people like Asian Dub Foundation, Nitin  Sawhney, Talvin Singh and the acclaimed Dhol Foundation. If you ever go to an Asian Underground night such as Swaraj, Stoned Asia, Shaanti or Club Indus you can feel the vibes as a variety of people come together and enjoy the asian sounds collabrated with the western beats. The Asian Underground are breaking thru, so why is it banghra wont?
