TENNIS
My Mom, my Dad and I play a lot of tennis!  We spend lots of hours on the court.  We are all members of several USTA League teams and in our spare time we play tournaments
My Dad and I played mixed doubles in the Alameda City Tennis Tournament during the summer of 2001.
Here we are with the super terrific tournament director John Curliano before our first match.
John Curliano was my very first tennis teacher ever.  He is more than a tennis coach, he is a mentor and a close family friend.  I have known him for more than 10 years.  He is an awesome tennis teacher and one of the best people I have ever met!
Here we are with John after losing a tough match in the finals.  Dad and I still had a lot of fun playing even though we didn't win this time.  There is always next year....
Here's Dad in the ready position waiting for a volley.
Look at that impeccable form on the service toss!  Here is Dad getting ready to hit an ace.  (hmmm... any closer to the line and he might get called for a foot fault).
Here is my dad as he moves in to poach and hit a winning volley.
Here is my Mom (on left) and her doubles partner Lois Francis (on right) after beating opponents in 2 sets!
Here's Mom, ready to attack at the net!
Mom and Dad pose for a quick picture on the court.  Who says "Love means nothing in tennis"?
Here is a picture of my boyfriend and 9.0 mixed doubles partner, Ted, serving.  He was one of the  tennis instructors my parents had through Alameda Park and Rec.  You can blame him for any improper tennis form my parents use.
My Mom and I played on a USTA women's 3.5 team named The Island Girls in 2001.  We had a great time.  It was fun playing tennis with such a terrific bunch of ladies!
This is a picture from one of the team parties.  I didn't go to that one because there was a Sharks hockey game that night that needed me (Priorities!).  The team members pictured are:
Back Row:  (left to right) Joni Mahler (my doubles partner and co-captain of the team); Pat Hosel (my Mom); June Sterngold; Stella Chung; Diane Padway; Connie Chang; Susan Deutsch.  Middle Row: (left to right) Angie Perez; Rita Trachuk; Pearl Leung-Gima (Team Captain).  Front Row: Bari Boswell
Here Mom and I are on the court before a recent match.
Here we are are after our win at Palomares on July 20, 2002.  We were headed to Districts!  WooHoo!!
In 2002 my mom and I played together on our 3.5 team- we had lots of fun and did well together too.  Above is a picture of some of the members of our team.  Included in the picture are  some terrific and supportive individuals that travelled with us to Palomares in Castro Valley on July 20, 2002  and cheered loudly as we won our final round match in playoffs and clinched a place at districts!  The people pictured are:
Back Row: (left to right) Cecily Medved; Anita Reese; June Sterngold; Carla Eustice-Pulliam; Rosie Bareis (Our Club Pro); Pat Hosel (my Mom and very talented doubles partner); Harry Hosel (My Dad); Velina Pelgrift.  Middle Row:(left to right) Susan Deutsch; Pearl Leung-Gima, Rita Trachuk; Robin Fujinaka; and me.  Front Row: (left to right) Jeanie Chin (she is on a 4.0 team and to watch and cheer for us); Bari Boswell.
Well, districts were held 8/9/02-8/11/02, they were really fun and very competitive.  There was a new format this year:  a tiebreaker (first to 10, by 2 points) instead of a third set.  This made for some exciting and very close matches.  The teams were evenly matched over the 3 days of play.  Our team lost only to the eventual champions, Clubsport Pleasanton.  My mom and I played all 3 matches.  The first day we lost 10-8 in the third set tiebreaker- talk about a close one (if we had won just a few more points our team would have gone to sectionals)!!!  Our team lost the match 2-1.  The second and third day we played really well (perhaps trying to make up for the loss on the first day)won both our matches; our team won each of those matches 2-1.

Overall it was a terrific weekend of tennis and a fun end to a terrific season.  Next up on the all Jenny Hosel all tennis channel.... 7.0 mixed doubles with Dad, and 9.0 mixed doubles with Ted!
