| Saturday 28th June, a memorable day in 1986 rock calendar. Wembley stadium was the place to be. It was the end of an era for wham! Some 72,000 fans are already locked inside Wembley gates, having set out earlier in the day. A foolhardy hundred had even camped out over night, as if testying to the chaos wham! Could have wreaked had they chosen a smaller, intimate venus for their display of pop euthanasia. Inside the gates, the afternoon sun beats down on a half-naked throng herded together like an overcrowded pen. The day is filled with loads of special guest, as evening draws in the crowd are doing the Mexican world cup. As the night draws in the first screening of wham! In china! A Cultural Revolution! �Foreign Skies� burst onto the screens. Every time a wham! Song comes up the crowd sing along. No one seemed to care that they were going to hear the same songs again in just a few hours. As 7.30 approaches, the audience chant for wham! The clapping becomes louder and the chants were getting more and more. As the opening bars of � everything she wants� gets louder and louder from behind the black drapes which were still closed. The black curtain says it all �THE FINAL� After a few minutes the curtain is down and wham! Are on stage, and for the final time. George was all in black. Andrew was also in black. Everything she wants is playing it�s the start of the very last wham! Concert. The end of an era�. Wham! Played all their hit songs from �last Christmas� �young guns� �bad boys� �club Tropicana� � wake me up before you go-go�. Before they played edge of heaven George tells every one that he wants to see the wave. He ask everyone to hold up the blue side of the programme from left to right the wave its Wembley. George split the crowd into three parts left right middle and ask the crowd to sing. He wanted to hear the first part of the chorus for edge of heaven, So he spit the crowd in three. And ask everyone on the left to sign �yer yer yer� and the middle �la la la � and the right side �yer yer yer �. The edge of heaven starts playing, and the 72,.000 strong crowd sings along. As 10.30pm draws near the final song playing �im your man� George and Andrew hug and the image is on both screen, the wham story ended on 28th June 1996 but they went out at the top.!!!! |
