Pick A July For Kings Member
Travis Delaney :: Joe Hedges :: TJ Miller :: Dan McQuinn :: Drew Phillips
Travis Delaney l e a d g u i t a r Born January 22, 1980 Travis Michael Delaney was born and raised in Middletown, Ohio. He began playing Guitar at the age of fifteen, after six years of piano lessons. During his sophomore year of high school he joined a band (Vice) with Joe, his 9th grade best friend, and Sam, his friend since birth. Travis' main contributions to July For Kings' music are his catchy-as-hell guitar lead lines and suttle clean accents, adding unique splashes of color and texture to every song. Travis (Trav) may be the most reserved member of July For Kings. He's extremely nonconfrontational and laid-back, describing himself as "able to get along with pretty much anyone." When he's not cranking out guitar riffs, Travis enjoys going to the gym, listening to music, going to concerts, and spending time with his son Liam at home.
Joe Hedges v o c a l s , g u i t a r Born September 6, 1980 Joseph Alan Hedges was born and raised in Trenton, Ohio. He took piano lessons for years, and switched to guitar when he, Travis, and Sam decided to create a rock band. Joe is the primary lyricist and songwriter for July For Kings. His lyrics are emotional and thoughtful; his guitar style is unique. Never having taken lessons, Joe's songs feature odd chordings and alternate tunings. "I am a creative, moody person. I have a slight tendency to over-dramatize my life, which makes for good songs I guess...I enjoy writing, drawing, painting, and making stuff in general. I don't feel alive or productive if I'm not. I feel compelled to create." Joe is relatively introverted...offstage. On stage he leads the band and the crowd with a captivating passionate presence.
T Miller c e l l o , g u i t a r, v o c a ls Born August 29, 1979 Travis John Miller (T.J. or T) is a classically trained cellist born and raised in Springboro, Ohio. T met the rest of the guys in during high school. T is quite possibly the most musically talented member of July For Kings--he has sat in with orchestras all over Ohio. Just before moving back from Columbus to join July For Kings, T was sitting in the third chair of the Ohio State University Orchestra. In the summer of 1999, T's addition completed July For Kings' lineup. T's cello fills out the overall sound of July For Kings, adding a unique flavor to studio tracks and their live show. Texplains that "the cello adds a definite classical touch to July For Kings' rock and roll style." In the studio, "the cello is chorded in layers to produce overlapping melodies." It's rare and refreshing to see a cellist on stage with a rock band. T is the kind of guy who everyone adores in high school--not necessarily popular, but a friend to everyone. "I'm ambitious but shy." In his spare time, T likes playing ping-pong, traveling, and watching movies.
Dan McQuinn d r u m s Born March 17th, 1980 Daniel W. McQuinn was born in Aurora, Ohio on St. Patricks Day. Three years later, as a toddler, he moved to Middletown, Ohio, and has lived in the same place ever since. Dan's dad used to play the drums, so at a young age, he was able to tinker with them a little bit, and continued to do so as he got older. Growing up, Dan played the trumpet, guitar, and baritone, all in school.... but no instrument seemed to compare to his love for the drums. Dan states, "I can fiddle around on a ton of instruments, but I'm probably strongest, or most confident rather, behind the drums." Dan joined July For Kings in the fall of 2003 after former drummer, Sam Dobrozsi, decided to leave the band to pursue other goals. Dan met Sam as a kid, given that they lived about a block away from each other. In high school, the two were best buds, so through Sam, Dan was able to meet Joe and Trav. More recently, Dan was able to meet everyone again through his and Sam's side project, "The Beat Offs". With big shoes to fill, Dan has stepped into a nice fit with JFK. Showing a little flare and a little flash, Dan's kick ass drum beats add a solid backbone to the JFK sound. He asserts, "I want to play the parts that fit the song, and then put a fill or a quick twist to let people know I can throw down when the time is right." Dan is probably one of the craziest members of the band, and why not... he is the drummer. "I am fairly quiet unless one of two things happen.... A) I'm drunk, or.... B) I'm very comfortable. In either of the two situations..... I am extremely silly," he declares, " I think I make the guys laugh. And not intentionally either. So maybe I'm the goofy guy now. And laughter is the best medicine. I should say that I bring Rock and Roll to the band, but that was done years ago. So I'll have to stick with the silliness. In his free time, Dan likes to sleep first and foremost. But he also likes writing and playing music with recording programs on his computer. He records most of the live shows for the band, dubbing himself as the official media guy. Other than that though, he likes to surf the web a little bit, "Lots of cool stuff out there." And you didn't hear it from me, but Dan is also quite the ladies man.
Drew Phillips b a s s, v o c a l s Born December 4th, 1977 Andrew Patrick Phillips (Drew) was born and raised in Zanesville, Ohio and was introduced to music at a very young age, listening to some old records that his parents owned. His love for music has never ceased either, undoubtebly because he can't get enough of the entire experience. Drew is an encyclopedia of rock and roll information, knowing more about rock than you could ever imagine. Joe claims, "Drew is the ministry of history. He is in charge of telling us about different bands and members and albums and songs. The amount of stuff he knows is truly amazing." Formerly of the Cincinnati modern rock band, Pay The Girl, Drew has played the bass for about 5 years. He has also played the guitar for thirteen years, and admits he likes to noodle on any instrument with strings. He joined forces with July For Kings in late 2003 after the break up of Pay The Girl, and has added a nice consistency to the JFK lineup after an endless circle of temporary bassists had filled the hole for almost a year. Drew describes his bass playing as the foundation for each JFK song, complimenting what the rest of the band is doing. "If no one is thinking about me. the bass line, the feel.... then I'm doing my job. I try and glue it all together and let Joe and the other guys do their stuff, the things they are all great at doing. There is a ton of talent in this band and in these guys." Other than being a kick ass dude, Drew is also one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He tries to stay positive about things and keeps a proper perspective on life. "I see a lot of people on a daily basis get so worked up about things that, at the end of the day, really don't matter much. I try not to be that guy," he states, "I think hard work is important. But I also think that you need to stop and smell the ol' roses as you go. Dig?" In his free time, Drew likes to watch, listen, and read about anything involving music. He also likes to run a set amount of miles each week, and.... just like Dan.... sleep.
