All about my car? Well, I bought the red KE20 with only RM5,500, thats around US Dollar 1,447.37 (fixed rate 3.80), from my brother-in-law last March 1997. The other new Corolla 1991, 1.3cc, with front mounted engine, meaning front wheel drive. The red dragon color was chosen by the 3rd owner and never been changed ever since. The 4th owner changed the 3K 1200cc engine to 4K 1300cc engine and made some modification especially in the wiring. This includes the front round light and sound system wiring. He also installed hands-free for his handphone. All the lights, sound and hands-free connected to modified switches with light under the dashboard (just under rightside of the steering). The Power amplifier and the Equalizer he put at the back with lots of messy wire.

I have some changes onto it also. First the location of the Power amp and equalizer. I like to see the led scanning lights from the equalizer. I put it in front and rewiring everything with a good quality audio cable which cost me lot. I also connect a radio frequency suppressor to cassette player to eliminate the engine noise. New original tyres on the front. Changed both the upper leaf spring at the back, half-tinted window, wiper blades, stock master brake pump and new pipe for the brake, new radiator hose to the engine which the old one wanna blow up (swollen when hot!!), radiator cap and top overhaul. Still looking for the overflow tank. I also change the runner chain or timing chain and gasket. Before this, the engine made so much noise, they said the valve had to be tightened. Changed the Spark plug to Bosch one and the cables. Now it is easy to start. No more pumping the gas. Change the rusting small round muffler and the tail to a chrome muffler and 3" tail. The sad thing is I cannot find the bumper for this KE20. I have looked everywhere. Thinking of modifying the bumper, I mean create a new one that look and feel like the rally car. So low about 5" from the ground. What do you think, any comment or suggestion for me?

She, I mean the Red, still got the problem on the accelaration. When I press the gas pedal too quick after shifting gear, the car suddenly going slower, rpm decrease. By releasing the pedal slowly and pressing it again, then the car start moving accordingly. Whats the problem actually, eh? Very sad car but what can I do. I love this car and it is my 1st one. Wanna Comment?

UPDATES:

12 Sept. 1998:

Change new speaker. Put in the trunk at the back 2x8" speaker in a carpeted box with tweeter. This one installed from Francis Kim, my friend. I gave him my two Pioneer speakers for his Kancil. Wiring, Tested finished at 8.30pm. Now mine I can be proud of. With the added woofer size, I can turn the volume to the max and still won't break the speaker. The sad story is my my bass could not be put to the max, my 20Watt cassette player cannot handle it, but still strong enough to be heard from outside with closed door. Imagine 20Watt only????

While Francis, he got the best sound from the Pioneer but not so powerful when using his own speaker box. BUT he satisfied enough to change it with me. Hehehe, thanks Francis. I owe you one.

15 Sept. 1998:

My car gearbox suddenly gone something wrong. I couldn't get the 1st gear to shift. I suspected my clutch lining. I sent to Mike Motor at Inanam at 9.30 a.m. He is my best friend when comes to car. Anyway, found out that the clutch cover and the bearing were the main culprit. To add to the terror, the Red Dragon had a broken limb. The gearbox mounting rusted and almost to fall down. Mike modified the the placement of the screw. He just screwed it to the floor. It cost me around RM300. Finished aroundd to 3.30 p.m. Managed to get Kundian, the office driver to sent me to Mike's workshop at 5 p.m.

Now, can shift the gear easily and no more the dreadful sound of gears been forced. The only problem is now the floor seems to rattle more than ever!!?? AARGGHH!!!!

29 Sept. 1998:

Send the Red20 to Uncle Ulung Workshop at Kg. Limadang, Membakut. Gave RM100 as deposit for the full floor welding. To go back home I use Dad's Mitsubishi Van. Filled RM30 Esso unleaded petrol.

3 October 1998:

It was on Saturday and my car is out! Uncle Ulung brought the Red to Papar. You know why? Dad's van suddenly stopped running at Kinarut. I was stucked there for hours. Thought it was out of petrol but then it was actually the 'contact point'. Damn! Filled RM39 full tank to my Red20 at BP station. After arriving safely at my parents' house, checked the under frame, gave another RM150 to Uncle Ulung.

It was actually the day my younger sister got engaged! So quite busy, no time to look at my loving Red20, hehehe!
