Who are we?Yugntruf ("Call to Youth"), a worldwide organization of Yiddish-speaking and Yiddish-learning young adults, was founded in 1964 to give the younger generation an opportunity to get together to speak Yiddish, to read and study Yiddish literature, and to write, sing and socialize in Yiddish. Most of Yugntruf's members are in their 20s, 30s, and 40s; but we also have many older members who feel young at heart and who want to help keep Yiddish active among the younger generation. Yugntruf is affiliated with no political or religious movement. Its members are of all ideological persuasions. Although all activities are conducted in Yiddish, Yugntruf is as much for the learner of Yiddish as it is for the fluent Yiddish-speaker. WHAT ARE OUR IDEALS? Yugntruf members believe that Yiddish is more than just a mode of linguistic expression; it is a symbol of our Jewish identity. It is an integral part of Jewish culture which connects us with Jewish life during the last thousand years. We are committed to ensuring the survival of Yiddish as a living language and culture.
