We would like to introduce ourselves, Jon and Nancy Laverty. Rock collecting and lapidary has been a major part of my husband's life. I found that I love designing and creating uniquely cut and polished stones into jewelry. This was the start of our small family-owned business. In business now five years, we found that others enjoy our unique jewelry.
I am a Wire Artist that creates one-of-a-kind wire wrapped jewelry using Sterling Silver and 14K Rolled Gold wire. No soldering or glueing is used in my art - just the wire! Various twisting and bending techniques are used to mount the gemstones to create stunning pendants, rings, bracelets, etc. A large variety of gems are wrapped including agate, amethyst, sodalite, malachite, moonstone, and many others. One of the latest materials to be wrapped is dichroic glass - a very colorful stone,which is result of the space program.
The shape and appearance of the stones being wrapped will guide my designs. Some pieces are simply framed in precious metal wire while others look breathtaking with a more ornate flowing design called wire sculpting. Each piece starts as a coil of wire and a gem, but ends up a beautiful piece of jewelry that will last a lifetime.
My husband is a lapidary artist. A lapidary artist takes rough stones, such as amethyst or agate, and fashions them into stunning gems using diamond saws and polishing wheels. Many of the highly polished gems in my jewelry were cut by my husband. He also polishes various mineral specimens. Our combination of lapidary and wire artist skills bring out the beauty of nature's gemstones to create stunning jewelry and mineral displays that cannot be found in a typical gift or jewelry store.
