Back to ListingsWin A Date With Tad Hamilton!Starring: Kate Bosworth, Topher Grace, Josh Duhamel Rosalee Futch (Kate Bosworth) is a small town girl with a crush on movie star. A winning entry in a charity contest gives her the chance she's always dreamed of - to go on a date with the great Tad Hamilton (Josh Duhamel). This is a disaster for Rosalee's best friend Pete (Topher Grace), who is secretly in love with her. How can a local grocery store manager compete with a Hollywood bad boy? Topher Grace does a decent job and his bitter comments are probably the best parts of the whole movie (although I couldn't really get past the "Eric Foreman" mindset). Kate Bosworth's small town girl is a little too sweet and innocent though, and this movie never truly gets off the ground. The movie has no true conflict and I didn't find myself cheering for either guy to win fair Rosalee, a requirement for any good romantic comedy. I really just didn't care who she ended up with. Some scenes actually show the potential this movie might have had. My favourite moment is the inevitable confrontation between Tad and Pete, which takes place in a bar bathroom stall. I even admit to being touched during one scene between Pete and Rosalee. But the good moments are less frequent than the bad and the horribly tedious. One too many cliches, jokes that don't make it, and most of the movie falls flat. One thing I did enjoy was the supporting cast - actors I like popping up in smaller roles. The roles were generally not that great though, it was just nice to see them. Notably, Nathan Lane (The Birdcage) and Sean Hayes (Will and Grace) as Tad Hamilton's agents, Gary Cole (Office Space) as Rosalee's dad, and Kathryn Hahn (Crossing Jordan) as the bartender Angelica. Rating: I stopped to chat and checked out all the new posters on the way back from the washroom. | |
