Back to ListingsThe Whole Ten YardsStarring: Bruce Willis, Matthew Perry, Amanda Peet, Kevin Pollack, Natasha Henstridge In the sequel to The Whole Nine Yards, Oz, a clumsy dentist, and Jimmy 'the Tulip' Tudeski, a contract killer, reunite after Oz's wife is kidnapped by Hungarian mobsters. After Cynthia is taken, Oz (Matthew Perry) turns to Jimmy (Bruce Willis) and his new wife Jill for help. After the movie, my companion asked me what I had thought about it. I just shrugged and said, 'It was alright.' She nodded and we were finished discussing the movie. No fine plot points to review, no truly wonderful scenes to relive. The kind of movie that is ideal for a rental really. There were some good laughs in the film, but also some incredibly slow parts. The best parts of the movie were almost always Matthew Perry and Bruce Willis playing off each other. The worst parts of it were the hard to understand mobsters. The accent jokes and misunderstandings were old before they started and their incredible incompetence made me cringe. My deepest disappointment with the film is that the script actually resorted to fart jokes for so-called humour. I do give kudos to Matthew Perry for his physical comedy. Somehow it just worked when he walked into a door, and a wall, and another door... I did find the slapstick quite funny, but it got to be a bit much after a while. It felt like the director realized he should probably try for a laugh every couple of minutes and just yelled at Perry to walk into something. If you liked the original The Whole Nine Yards, the sequel may amuse you. It's nice to see the characters again, but the plot is fuzzy and the jokes are not as good as before. Rating: I walked at a medium pace to and from the washroom. | |
