Introduction to Number the Stars

• Print out this page and fill it out with a partner:

            Pre-Reading Assignment

• Work in groups of three or four and go to this web site:

             Number the Stars Web Quest

• Read Introduction and Task
• Then, under process and resources read and answer the questions under number 1.  Each group will be assigned a website to visit under number 1 and will be asked to make a small presentation to the class on their topic.  Do not go any further than number one under process and resources.
• Read Chapter 1 in class

¬Read Chapters 2 – 4 for homework

¬Write four vocabulary words from your reading that you do not know, and define them on a note card

·        Questions about the novel and a brief discussion

& Reading Quiz on Chapters 1 – 4

• Visit the site:  Number the Stars Questions and Activities
• By yourself answer the questions to chapters 1-2 and 3-4
• With a partner or by yourself do the activities for chapters 1-2 and 3-4 (Materials will be provided for you to do the activities)
• In the activities section, write down the vocabulary word on a note card
• Show the: Number the Stars Slide Show
• Written Assignment:  Based on what you have read and learned from the slide show write a paragraph introducing the first four chapters of the book describing setting, characters, relationships, and other background information.

• Web Research and Power Point Presentation:  You will be assigned a topic from this web page and asked to make a short summary of what it included. You may copy and paste pictures from the website on to a power point presentation to show to the class.
