Now, for the pronounciation.  First of all don't look at hurtadillas and get frustrated.  Spanish vowels have only one way to say them, unlike English.   Let's introduce the Spanish alphabet. It has 3 more combined letters.

A-(ah) B-(bay) C-(say) CH-(chay) D-(day) E-(how we say A) F-(ef-fay) G-(hay) H-(ah chay) I-(ee) J-(hoe-tah) K-(kah) L-(el-ay)  M-(em-ay) N-(en-nay) Ñ-(en-yay) O-(Oh) P-(pay) Q-(coo) R-(air-ray) RR-(airrray-rolled R) S-(essay) T-(tay) U-(oo) V-(vay v's are in between v and b) W-(doblay vay) X(eck-eese) Y-(ee gree ay gruh) Z-(say ta)

*When I write uh for pronouncing, its like the o in love, (Luv) or U in up. But soft. No grunting.

"A" are soft, said like the a in fall, stall, and such. Ah!

"E" are said like the a in play, say, day, way, and such. The letter "e" is said "ay."

"I" are said like the ee in sneeze, geese; ea in please.

"O" are said like o in Oh!, snow, moe, dough.

"U" are said like oo in poo, e in new; o in do; ou in through.

"G" are said like H in hen, but when preceded by a vowel it is between a g in generous and a j like Jessi

"Z" are said like s in slice, something etc.

"H" are never pronounced. Pretend they don't exist.

"J" are pronounced as H, like hello, how.

"Ñ" are pronounced as an N with a y sound. Año (year) is said An-yo. That squiggly is a tilde (til day)

"Ce,ci" is soft; Ca, Co are hard C's. (Happy now Chris?)

"CH" is exactly the same, like cheese.

"Ll" is said all y in yes, you.

For example, nuncio (announcement) is said "noon cee oh". Casa is cah sah.

Try these tecla, disco, bebe, matar, escuchar.      Ready?   tay-cluh, Deesco, bay bay, mah tar, es coo char.

Now, people look at hazañas (deeds) and say I just read above but I have no clue. Try it.   Remember H's aren't pronounced.   Z's are like S's.     Ah san yas.     How about  azul (blue)?    ah-sool.                                                  amarillo (yellow) ah mar ree yo.  Anaranjado (orange)  Ana rahn ha do.

Accents are usually placed on the second to last syllable.  Ca'-sa.     Te'-cla.  Su-ci'-o. But when there is an accent over a vowel (always a vowel) thats where emphasis is placed instead.

Ratón. ra-TON' (mouse)

I mentioned hurtadillas earlier it's  oo-ur ta dee yas.
