Imperative So, you want to boss people around, eh? Well, even commands have conjugation depending on whom you want to boss around. If you want to command someone politely; that you don't know, use formal. If you want to command a child, a close friend, your husband etc, use informal. Formal This encompasses usted, ella, el, nosotros, ustedes, and ellos. It is formed by using the present subjunctive. An easy trick to this is just using the opposite endings. For example, tomar an -ar verb can be changed to toma (ella form). Switch the ending to ir/er and you've got tome. That is the command for Take! Tome el exámen! Take the test! The formal commands are same in affirmative and negative. Informal Affirmative tú is formed by taking the ella form of the present tense. Toma el examen!!! Take the test! Coma la comida. Eat the food. Levántate! Get up! Negative is the tú form of the subjunctive. See Subjunctive Don't write. Escribir--- No escribas! Don't eat. No comas. Irregular affirmatives hacer- haz tener- ten decir- di poner-pon venir-ven ir- ve salir- sal
Come here (child) Ven acá. Go away! Váyate! Stay with me. Quédate conmigo. Don't leave me. No me dejes.
