| Kolorado and Goombario remained outside of the Great Chamber, not that they could have entered anyway, with those lasers in the doorway. The flames from the gargoyles heads died down, a full 30 seconds after it started. KOLORADO: You saw it boy, I tried to save him. We both did. We cant have people going around calling a respectable archeologist like myself a coward or anything like that. His death was inevitable, an unfortunate cost for discovery. GOOMBARIO: You ran like a little two-year-old. At least a two-year-old would have the sense to realize that those flames couldnt have hurt him. KOLORADO: What are you talking about, old chum? Look at my bloody shell! Kolorado turned around and showed his shell, which was singed by the flames, even though he and Goombario were at least 20 feet away. GOOMBARIO: Hahahahaha! Err, sorry sir. It was just kind of funny. Anyway KOLORADO: Yes, yes, quite funny to see a Koopa lose his bloody shell. VOICE: Hey Kolorado! Did you singe your butt like at Lava Lava Mountain? Kolorado turned and saw the archeologist standing in the Great Chamber. He got angry and charged at him, but hit the lasers and got an electric shock. He was flung back and he lost 15 HP. KOLORADO 35/50 KOLORADO: Why I ought to Hey! Youre alive! GOOMBARIO: Thats what I was trying to tell you! The flames hit him alright, but do you really think fire is going to hurt Axem Inferno? KOLORADO: Hmmmm Good point boy. You passed the test! GOOMBARIO: Test? KOLORADO: I knew old Inferno wouldnt be hurt, I was just testing you. Goombario snorted. AXEM INFERNO: Yeah, Im sure you were. Anyway, is there any way through those laser things? GOOMBARIO: I dont think soI thought these ruins were 8000 years old? AXEM INFERNO: They are, give or take a couple hundred years. GOOMBARIO: Then how are there lasers? AXEM INFERNO: The legends did say that the race that created it were highly advanced. They apparently had a stable government with coined money and writing, while humans were still trying to understand fire. If I cant go back I think Ill have to go through the Arch, but first I want to try something. Axem Inferno shot a fireball at the lasers. The fire passed through them, giving Inferno some hope. However, a few seconds later, half of the beams turned blue. KOLORADO: Are thosewater lasers? AXEM INFERNO: I think so. Inferno shot another fireball. This one hit the blue lasers and went out, giving off a little steam. AXEM INFERNO: I know so. I will have to try to make it through the Arch or maybe find a way to disable the lasers. Axem Inferno walked to the computer like console. Once again the flames shot out, but he ignored them. He looked down at the console; it was covered with strange symbols. It almost looked like a keyboard or number pad, but with 16 symbols. He started to decipher some of the symbols. ELASPE TIME: A few hours later: Axem Inferno had finished translating the console and the symbols on the Arch. He walked back to tell Goombario and Kolorado what he had figured out. They were playing a game of chess. AXEM INFERNO: I figured out just about all I need to know about the Arch. KOLORADO: Shh! Im just about to take one of his pieces! Kolorado took one of Goombarios pawns. Goombario moved one of his rooks. GOOMBARIO: Checkmate. KOLORADO: What? That was your 4th move! Grr! Kolorado kicked the chessboard and turned towards Inferno. KOLORADO: This had better be good! Its all your fault I lost! If you hadnt broken my concentration I would have won! AXEM INFERNO: It is good. The Arch really was designed to be a sort of transportation device. I think Ive figured out the correct address to Aquador. The console is actually like a number pad on a phone, a sort of dialing device. KOLORADO: You think youve got the correct address? What happens if you dont? AXEM INFERNO: Im not quite sure. The Arch might not open, I could dial up some other planet, or the Arch could open, and I could step though into space. GOOMBARIO: So you could die? Why do you need to go to Aquador, anyway? AXEM INFERNO: I cant stay here forever, I cant go back, and Aquador is where the people who created this supposedly went. They might be able to turn off this laser grid, plus they could teach us a lot. GOOMBARIO: So youre sure you have to risk it? Well good luck. KOLORADO: Do come back alive, it wouldnt look proper if I let you go and die. I could lose my reputation, not only for you dying but also because I didnt go to study those people. GOOMBARIO: Thats one good thing about these lasers, Kolorado cant go. Axem Inferno smiled and said goodbye. He walked back to the console and punched in a series of 6 symbols, the address to Aquador, hopefully. The Arch came alive. The Archway started moving, with the symbols Inferno had pushed moving to the top. Then the doors opened outwards. The doorway was filled with what looked like water. This made Inferno a little nervous, even though he knew it was a wormhole and not water. AXEM INFERNO: Well, here goes everything. Axem Inferno stepped into the water and vanished. The wormhole rippled like a pond that just got hit by a stone. GOOMBARIO: Whoa I sure hope that was the right address. End of Episode 2 |
