My Best Friends
Ask just about
anyone who knows me: My friends are my life. Growing up, I didn't
always have a lot of friends, so now that I do, I make sure to
do everything in my power to make sure that they are happy. I
love them more than anything in the world. Each one has changed
me in some way, helping to make me the person that you are discovering
as you browse among these pages. So here is an introduction to
the most important people in my life for all of the viewers, along
with a personal message for all of my friends in case they're
reading this, too.

This
is the longest history of the page, mainly because I've known
Pookah all my life. Literally. She's my older sister, so she's
constantly been around me. We've done everything together and
she knows me better than I know myself. Pretty much anything
that has happened to me, she's been there for. She's the best
older sis in the world. :) |
Jen's an
interesting character. She's always a little goofy and sometimes
a little flighty. She's very intelligent but doesn't always have
the most common sense. She's optimistic and does her best to
cheer me up when I get nasty. She's very animated and gets into
telling stories and gets excited over little things. People are
always drawn to her and want to be her friend. I always bitch
that everyone likes her better, but then, she's not as crabby
as I am, so maybe that's a good reason why. :) |
Jen
& Jess in October, 2000
Jen
is my only sibling. People say that they think we're twins or
that I'm older than she is, but the opposite is actually true.
Jen's 3 and a half years older than I am. Though I sometimes feel
like I'm the older sister, cause I'm always the 'responsible'
one. Jen is one of the most special people in my life. Sometimes
it's a blessing, sometimes it's a curse. Why? Poor Jen gets to
be the person that I'm the most comfortable with. So I'm always
completely, totally, and bluntly honest with her. On the downside,
Jen is the only one who I'll allow to see me in one of my 'funks'
when I get really down. She's the only person that I trust completely
and wholly enough to cry in front of. But when I'm like that,
Jen is always the one person who is able to bring me back to Earth
and into a somewhat normal orbit. Jen and I have pretty much been
through everything together. She's very smart and has her B.A.
in French, and she's now working towards her Masters in both French
and Secondary Education. She's almost always in a good mood and
one of the best friends that anyone could ever ask for.

My
Message to Jen:
Pookah:
I can't even begin to thank you enough for all the times that
you have been there for me. You are, without a doubt, the rock
that keeps me stable and sane. I always laugh the hardest with
you, and you always know exactly what to say to make me smile.
I will always love you for putting up with me. :) Thanks for always
cheering me up, being my lunch buddy, letting me borrow homework,
teaching me to drive (at age 12, heehee), convincing me to skip
class, following me around the country to see Celine, helping
me with my trials of dating, motivating me to keep going in school,
life, and weight loss, and mostly just for being the most wonderful
sister in the world. =) You are and always will be my favorite
traveling buddy (from rotten Akron to amazing Italy). But I'm
still just the slightest bit upset about that damn languages of
the world class. :) Heehee. Never forget: our travels, our walks
to wal-mart or nowhere, barbies, the Pure Moods CD, skipping school
to go shopping, skyline, the "just-fucked look," parent-bitching,
bad exboyfriends (who don't even deserve to be mentioned), girls
nights, taking classes together, and the endless talks about nothing
in particular. Love always, Jojobean.

Angie
& I became friends on June 11, 2000. I remember the exact
date because it was the day we left for Italy. :) She, Jen, and
I were the outcast "smokers" of the group, and by the
end of a 6 hour layover in Detroit, we were instant friends.
I've never been so glad to have such a bad habit because otherwise
we might not've bonded so much. We spent a month together in
Italy and have been the best of friends ever since. I've known
Angie the shortest amount of time on this list of friends, but
I feel like she and I are really close. Hell, recently we've
practically become roommates. Heehee. =) Even though I've only
known her a year, I love her as though I've known her forever. |
Angie is
the best of both worlds when it comes to being a friend. She's
wild, spontaneous, a little outrageous, a little flirtatious,
and always the first one to smile or want to go out. On the other
hand, she also takes being a friend very seriously. She knows
when you need to talk, she knows how to listen, how to comfort,
when you need a hug, and how to make a person feel a thousand
times better. Even when incredibly busy, she always makes time
to check in and make sure that everything is going well in your
life. She's generous, outgoing, hilarious, affectionate, and
intelligent. But just as fair warning: she's not a morning person,
and don't piss her off when she's driving. :) |
Angie
& Jessica: Girls night out, May, 2001
Angie is the
friend that everyone in the world needs to have. There's something
about her that makes people instantly like her, even if she does
strange things like asking you to look up her nose (this is how
she and I met, heehee.) She's very intelligent, hardworking, and
seems to love life no matter what happens. She's got a B.A. in
psychology, an associates degree in teaching, she'll get her B.A.
in elementary education soon, next year she'll get her Masters
for Special Education. She's always fun to be with, no matter
what she is doing. She's a diva goddess, and you must know her
to fully appreciate all that it takes to be one (there is only
a very select few of us out there, heehee.) And, she's the only
person I know who has worse luck with men than I do. But aside
from all that, Angie is probably one of the most special people
that I've ever had as a part of my life.

Message to Angie:
Tasty:
Hey baby! We've got some crazy memories, don't we? Starting in
a rotten airport with bad layovers until forever, you're always
& forever gonna be one of the people that I love most in this
world. You're my favorite diva goddess and the best men-basher
(boys are dumb) I've ever encountered. I always have so much fun
with you, even when we're doing nothing at all except shopping
at Meijer or singing "goodbye Ian/Bryan" at the tops
of our lungs. You have my promise that Winter 2001 Quarter will
never happen again: I'll never letcha go that long without seeing
me. :-) I'll get Tasty withdrawl, ya know? But more seriously,
over the last year you've become one of my very best friends and
I hope that stays the same forever. (We'll be bitching about men
at least that long) One day you and I gotta go see Sarah together!
Never forget: Che Sera, gelato & gnocchi, bad eating habits,
Me-Me-Me-Me-Me, girls nights out, Metropolis, our obsession with
Express, early morning wake-up calls and late night I-need-a-friend
calls, tuesday mornings at Teachers College, the tales behind
your many nicknames, foot-long weiners (Yummy! heehee), my confession
under the influence of too many 'sex with an alligator' shots
(I'm still embarrassed about that one!), movie nights and sleeping
over, and our silly e-mails that are almost pointless because
we always end up calling and talking before the other one reads
their mail. Ti voglio bene, baby! XOX, Sexy.

I met Nicki
in the 6th grade, we were both in Access together, but we didn't
really become good friends until the 7th grade when we got stuck
being the movie reviews for the Colerain Chronicles. Back then
we were both the biggest dorks, but in 8th grade she got rid
of her bad perm and got popular, whereas I was still the social
outcast. Then in 9th grade we went to different schools but became
good friends again, and we've been friends ever since. I feel
as though she's always been a part of my life, and every one
in my family considers her to be family. She dated my cousin
for so long we thought she might legally become a part of it.
:) She and I have had our ups and downs over the years but she
means the world to me. |
Man, I'm
not even sure I can describe Nicki! She appears to be a little
stand-offish at first, but once you get past that, she's the
funniest person you'll ever meet. What really makes things interesting
is that I'm not even sure that half the time she knows she's
being funny. She is in the same boat as Jen, very smart but not
always the quickest to catch on to things. She's hilarious most
of the time, you can even catch her in a good childish mood every
once in a while, but she can also have her moments when you don't
want to know her ("NOTHING!"). And just like with Angie,
don't piss her off while she's driving!! But no matter what her
mood, Nicki is always a great friend, a good listener, and tons
of fun to be with. Just don't try to get affectionate. :) |
Jessica

Nicki has been
such a constant in my life for such a long time that I honestly
do consider her to be my sister. She's at UC, too, though I'm
not really sure what her major is right now. She keeps switching
it on me. :) Something in the business school, that much I do
know. :) She's very intelligent and incredibly hard working. I
admire her in a lot of ways because she has so much going on and
still manages to stay sane and be an incredible friend. Well,
as sane as she ever was anyway, which I'm not going to say anything
else about. :) She's devoted to all the things that she does,
and shes really good at managing conflicts and problems. She and
I have grown up together and I know that we'll be friends forever.
I can't imagine my life without her, and I don't even think that
I'd want to imagine something like that.

Hairy
Balls: You've been my best friend for so long that I don't even
think I remember anyone else ever holding that position. :) We've
had our good times and bad times, but there is something so special
about our relationship that none of the bad times were ever able
to totally break us apart, and that means something very special
to me. You've been a very significant part of my life and I know
that you've helped shape me in a lot of ways. I know I don't say
or show it all the time, but I hope you know how much I love you
and how much you mean to me. No matter what happens, where we
go or what we do, you'll always be a part of me. Never forget:
Gatlinburg, shopping trips, Sophomore Spring Break (MIAMI!), 1
L'd allergies, classes together (when you'd actually show up!),
"I dig scrawny pale guys," girls nights out, movies
with Ben & Jerrys, your obnoxious scratching habit, dragging
our butts to kickboxing or the gym, bitching about men in our
lives, the detergent aisle at Wal-Mart, McDonalds, me harassing
you about learning the back-roads, the Honda, 8 AM classes, Remingtons,
Flossy, and 'bunny parts.' I love ya forever, Fag.

I met Scott
in the summer of 1992, I think. Jen's friend Shawna had a crush
on him, so she invited him to go to Kings Island with us. I was
terrified of the guy. He was older than me, kinda scary looking
at the time, and when he pulled out his pocket knife I thought
for sure I was a goner. Heehee. Now I know better. Scott is one
of the nicest, most considerate, and thoughtful guys I've ever
met. He and my sister dated for 8 years and they're still the
best of friends. Scott and I didn't get along so great for the
first couple of years because I thought he was stealing my sister
away from me. Luckily, I finally got over my bitchiness and took
the chance to get to know him. Now I consider him to be one of
my best friends. |
Well, as
I mentioned over there, Scott is just an all around great guy
to be near. He's very nice, very intelligent, easy to talk with,
and he always makes me laugh (even though he's usually making
fun of me!). Even though he'll never admit it, I don't think
he minds having me around too much. =) Scott is very laid back
and it takes a lot to make him angry. He's a little bit shy around
people that he doesn't know, but once you get to know him, he's
a good friend to have around. He also takes a lot of pride in
being a guy so the girls take advantage of that when we need
car or yard work done. :) |
Nicki
& Scott, December 2000.
Scott is a lot
like the brother that I never had. I guess I think of him a lot
as a brother anyway because him and my sister dated for so long,
I think I sort of expected him to become my brother in law. But
even if that's not in the stars, I'm still really glad that I
got to know him. I've learned a lot from Scott. He's got a wealth
of strange trivia locked inside of his mind. I sometimes marvel
at the useless little facts that he knows. He and I have an ongoing
battle. He wants me to watch the Star Wars movies, and I told
him I'd do it as soon as he listened to my CD collection. I don't
think either of us will ever get our way. :) He's introduced me
to a lot of other cool things though, especially in regards to
music.
Me

My
Message to Scott:
Bread!!!
Heehee. =) Scott, I know that you and I have had our differences
from time to time, but I really can't imagine what my life would
be without you in it. You always find a way to make me laugh (usually
by imitating Nicki or Jen) and I feel like I can trust you with
a lot of things. I do miss living with you, and not just because
you had the cable hook-up and took care of the pool. :) I'm sorry
for those years when I was younger and tormented you. Although,
I guess I still torment you, eh? :) Anyway, thank you for being
such a good friend. I know that you're going to do really well
in life, and I'll always be here cheering you along. Never forget:
All the trips to Gatlinburg (especially when you ripped your pants),
long games of Trivial Pursuit, South Park, picking me up from
school, picking on certain parents, 'babysitting' Nicki while
I was in Italy, going to the gym, me always asking you to fix
something in my entertainment center, all the movies we watched,
going to dance clubs, girls night when we dyed your hair (giggles),
all my stupid questions about men that I come to you for, and,
of course, BREAD!!! =) I love ya!! Bread. :)

I met Andrea
on April 11, 1997. Well, sort of. That's when we first started
talking on the internet. I didn't actually "meet" her
until September 2nd, 1998. And though I've only spent 34 days
with her in person, I feel like we know each other pretty well.
We became instant friends and have only grown closer since. Though
we live 600 miles apart, we still try to visit each other a few
times a year. Just to show how close she and I have become, she
made me her maid of honor for her wedding in 2001. :) |
Hmm...
Andrea is an Italian gal from da Bronx. So yes, she's got a bit
of an attitude (and more than just a bit of an accent.) She runs
very hot and cold on everything in life. She'll love ya to death
one minute and the next minute her temper flares up along with
a pointed tail and a pair of horns. :) Though lately she has
been keeping that in check for me. :) She's a fabulous friend,
funny, sentimental, a good listener, and quick to laugh. She's
somewhat impatient but still good natured. And if she loves you,
then it is completely and forever, even when she gets mad. :) |
Andrea
in the morning with a wild hairdo. August 2000.
Andrea is a character
and a half. Everytime you think you've got her figured out, she
finds another loop to throw at you. Andrea and I have very little
in common on the surface, so it's surprising that we even became
friends in the first place. It was a love of Celine that got us
talking. But incredibly, despite our differences, our souls are
very similar and when we met we were both in need of a good friend.
The word 'devotion' comes to mind when I think of Andrea. There
should have been a million or so times when she should have given
up on me, and yet she didn't. She's incredibly caring and has
a lot of dreams for the future that I hope will be fulfilled for
her. She deserves it because life has handed her more than a few
proverbial lemons. But she somehow continues, and I've learned
a lot about life, pursuing dreams, and understanding people from
getting to know her.

My
Message to Andrea:
Andrea,
I honestly don't know what I could say here that I haven't said
to you a million times already. Not a day goes by when I'm not
thankful that I finally got the nerve to just write to you. You've
been a huge influence in my life over the last four years and
I can only hope you know what you mean to me. I'm so happy for
you that you're finally getting your life in order and that you've
found so much happiness in the last few years. I hope that you
and I will forever be friends. Never Forget: IMing until the sun
rose, laughing till we cried, long conversations while you're
at work. my first trip to NYC, your first trip to Cinti, the 1
year IM where I confessed what I thought of you, Skyline, Burnett
Woods, getting crispy at the beach, goofy names given to certain
things, Montreal, Celine concerts, the time your mom called the
police on us, the problems with my couch, the bachelorette party,
jen sleeping in the bathroom, "holy fuck," and "ni
vous sans moi, ni moi sans vous." I love you always, Boo.

Katy &
Nicki were friends for a while before I got to know her. They
worked together and Nicki would tell me about her, but nothing
could prepare me for the first time I met her. She was working
in the drive thru at McDonalds and when she knew I was at the
window she ran over to introduce herself and asked me if I liked
her pigtails cause Nicki was making fun of them. I started laughing
and I haven't stopped laughing when she's around since. I don't
see her as much as everyone else, but I still love her dearly. |
Katy is
absolutely hilarious, flat out. That's the first thing that anyone
notices about her. But beneath her wild and crazy personality,
there lies a very deep, caring, and understanding person. She
went through a very wild stage for a while but becoming a mother
has really calmed her down in a lot of ways, and I'm glad for
that. Katy tells some wild stories at times but she's got a very
pure heart and a deep love for the well being of others. Even
if I don't see her as much as I'd like to, I still know in my
heart that she's a great friend. |
Katy,
8 and a half months pregnant, and Jess :)
Katy
and I don't have quite the history that the other people and I
on this page have, but it's mainly because our schedules just
never seem to coincide. So I don't have as many wild stories to
share about her, but I do know that Katy is a fantastic person
and a wonderful mother. Her daughter has got to be the cutest
little thing on the planet these days. :) I hope that growing
up Isabella will think of me as an Aunt and that I can sort of
help to raise her since I'm not ready to be a full-time mom myself
yet. I give Katy a lot of credit for being able to handle herself
so well. She works, takes care of Izzy, and still finds time to
hang out and date. She's very committed to getting her life back
on track, and I know that it's not always easy for her. In many
ways I admire her determination. She's working a great job now
and it looks as though there might be some wedding bells here
in the future, so I've got my fingers crossed. She's another person
who really deserves to be happy in their life.

My
Message for Katy:
Katy,
Girl I swear I'm always doubled over in hysterics when you're
around. I often wonder how on earth you keep a straight face with
some of the jokes that you come up with. I am so glad to have
you as a friend in my life. Even if we don't have all the time
to hang out, it just makes me appreciate the time that we do have
all the more. I know that for a while we sort of grew apart but
again, that just makes me even more thankful that we're friends
again now. I'm really proud of you for all the ways that you've
turned your life around, you're an inspiration to all of us. Thanks
for letting me be Auntie Moo Moo Head to Izzy. I wish you all
the happiness in the world Katy, you deserve it. By the way: I'm
still sorry that I missed Izzy's birth! Never forget: Gatlinburg,
McDonalds, Aerosmith!!, both of us dating the same gay guy, girls
nights out, making fun of Nicki (hairy balls!), hanging out at
Fridays, those damn railroad tracks by your house that kill my
car, our love of cows, steven tyler fantasies, lectures from Andrea,
"Jess, I love your hair, what kind of products do you use?"
"Katy, I'm gonna throw up, I can't talk right now."
And then you coming back with a cereal bowl for me to get sick
in!!, my 'professional' messages I leave for you at work, and
the pigtails I saw you in the first time that I met you!! I love
you, Fag. :)
Others
There
are a lot of other friends of mine who I'm not as close to as
the people on this page, but I definately feel like they should
have mention on this page, too. They're good friends and people
that I really enjoy spending time with.
Mike
& Amanda (who is terribly drunk in this pic!)
Michael
is my cousin and Amanda is his girlfriend. They hang out with
us pretty frequently and they're always a lot of fun to be with.
Michael and I are only a few months apart and so we've been good
friends our entire lives. He & Amanda have been dating about
nine months and I've really gotten to know her and like her a
lot. She's always up for a girls night out and always has a great
story to tell to make everyone laugh.
Nicki,
Mike, Tom & Katy, Summer 2000
Mike
(2nd from left) is Nicki's boyfriend of 3 years. For the first
year and a half or so that we were together, he and I didn't really
see eye to eye on a lot of things, and that was mostly my fault.
I don't think that I gave him a very fair chance. He's a little
hard to warm up to, but once you get to know him, he's really
a great guy. He's really funny, and he can imitate Nicki better
than anyone I've ever seen. It's so hilarious! I'm glad that I've
gotten to know him better and I hope he and Nicki find a lot of
happiness together.
Shawna
& Rob
Rob
is another one of my cousins and Shawna is my sister's best friend
from High School. The two of them have been dating for over a
year now and they're very happy together. They don't go out with
us as frequently because they both always have to work so early
in the morning, but we do have fun when we go out.
Internet
Friends
There are a few
very special friends that I've made on the internet that require
mention here, too. Even though we've never met, all of these people
have become very good friends to me.
Kay:
You're
the only person I know who is more sarcastic than I am. :) And
that's just one of the many things that I love about you. I do
hope that one day you and I will get to meet, hopefully for a
Sarah or Celine concert! Check out her webpage.
Amelia:
I
wish I knew where ya were these days, but I think of you often...
If you ever stumble upon this page, please write to me. I miss
you, little sis.
Jenn:
My
first real AOL friend. :) I don't think you and I have ever agreed
on anything, but that just makes me love talking to you all the
more. :) You're a doll and I know you'll go far in life.
Ian:
You're
another sarcastic one, but I do love that about you. But then,
you seem to think that I love *everything* about you. Too bad
you're a world away from me... =) You're a great guy.
Jason:
You're
one of the sweetest guys I've ever met and I feel like you and
I can (and do) talk about anything. One of these days I'm going
to drive out to PA just to say hello.
Sara:
"awwwww."
Heehee. You're probably the only person in the world more sentimental
than I am! I love our long and rambly e-mails and I'm so glad
that we've become friends, even if it was a long process!
Maria:
I've
learned a lot from you, my 'twin' halfway around the world, about
the person that I am and the person that I want to be. You and
I have gotta go traveling someday. You've got the most interesting
persectives on life. Check out her webpage.
Paul:
My
favorite tease... what else can I say?? :-) I still want the Return2Zero CD!!
Joe:
I
always enjoy talking with Joe because he's so intelligent, but
he's also very caring, a great listener, and a good friend. He
has a cool webpage, too.
Mattie:
A
fantastic guy from England with the coolest accent and the best
sense of humor. :-) I always love reading what you have to say
and what you're up to. I do hope that you'll consider moving here
to the US! :)
David:
David's
an original, that's for sure... He always seems to manage to make
me get myself into trouble somehow or another. But, what I love
about his is that he always gives me the straight answer and helps
me to try to understand guys!
Peter:
Another
great one who always helps me to understand guys! He's also a
great listener, funny, interesting, and very intelligent.
Ony:
Ony
is such a sweetheart! :-) He totally surprised me once by sending
me all these cool things from France from a trip that he took
there. He and I always have very deep conversations that I really
enjoy and he's helped me to understand a lot of things.
Friendship
Quotes
I've ran across
some great quotes about friendship in my life, and so I'd like
to share them here. It's nice when you find one that fits perfectly
in your life in regards to how you feel about your friends. I
realize that I'm not always the most articulate person in the
world and sometimes I have trouble expressing my emotions, therefore
I'll let these more articulate people say the words for me. :-)
If you know of any good friendship quotes, please feel free to
email them to me and I'll
add them on here.
'Each
friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until
they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is
born.' - Anais Nin

is a new door to a different world.' - Six Degrees of Separation
'No
love, no friendship, can cross the path of our destiny without
leaving some mark on it forever.' - Unknown

care of itself, but to get the full value of joy you must have
somebody to divide it with.' - Mark Twain

is partly what we make it, and partly what is made by the friends

do not last, but some friends are more loyal than brothers.' -

is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival

'Don't
walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don't walk behind me, I
may not lead. Walk beside me and be my friend.' - Albert Camus
'The real test

Kennedy
'It
is not so much our friends' help that helps us as the confident
knowledge that they will help us.' - Epicurus

'When we honestly
ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we
often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions,
or cures have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds
with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with
us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in
an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing,
not curing, not healing and face us with the reality of our powerlessness,
that is a friend who cares.' - Henri Nouwen
'Friends
need not agree in everything or go always together, or have no
comparable other friendships of the same intimacy. On the contrary,
in friendship union is more about ideal things: and in that sense
it is more ideal and less subject to trouble than marriage is.'
- George Santayana
'Life is to be
fortified by many friendships. To love and to be loved is the
greatest happiness of existence.' - Sydney Smith
'A
real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks
out.' - Walter Winchell

go to priests; others to poetry; I to my friends.' - Virginia
Woolf
'Let
me in, I want to be your friend, I want to guard your dreams and
visions.' - Bruce Springsteen
'Some may criticize
and sit in judgement of us, but they can't take away the love
that lives inside us always.' - Corey Hart
'Count
on me through thick and thin, a friendship that will never end,
when you are weak I will be strong, helping you to carry on.'
- Kenneth Edmonds (Babyface)
There is one
song in particular that gives me strength and hope when it comes
to my friends. It is the way that I feel towards each and every
one of them, and I hope that they, too, feel this way towards
me. Everytime I hear this song it gives me chills and brings very
special memories to mind. It's called "I'll Stand By You,"
and is performed by The Pretenders. Here are the lyrics:
'Oh,
why you look so sad?
The tears are in your eyes
Come
on and come to me now
And don't be afraid to cry
Let
me see you through
Cause I've seen the dark side, too
And
when the night falls on you
You don't know what to do
Nothing
you confess
Could make me love you less
I'll
stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't
let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you
So,
if you're mad, get mad
Don't hold it all inside
Come
on and talk to me now
And hey, what you got to hide?
I
get angry, too
Well, I'm a lot like you
When
you're standing at the crossroads
And don't know which path to choose
Let
me come along
Cause even if you're wrong
I'll
stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't
let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you
Take
me in into your darkest hour
And I'll never desert you
I'll
stand by you
And when, when the night falls on you
You're
feeling all alone
You won't be on your own
I'll
stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't
let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you
Take me in into your darkest hour
And I'll never desert you
I'll
stand by you.'
