Radiation
1
To recieve radiation. First the Aiden must be measured and mapped, so that the radiation can be done in the right spot each time Aiden comes back. They use red laser lights so that their lines are always straight. (Picture 1)

Aiden is then secured (with an immobilization device or
straps) to the table in perfect position.  (Picture 2)

Then we have to leave the room, and close the door. We can talk to and hear him over a microphone, and speakers. We can also see him through a TV screen/ video camera and through the glass window. (Picture 3)

The treatment only takes a few minutes, its the setting up that takes longer.

Then the machine is turned off, the immobilization device is removed and we can go home.

There is no immediate pain with radiation.

Some side effects of radiation are:
-loss of appetite
-nausea and vomiting
-fatigue (tiredness)
-slightly reddened or itchy skin
-hair loss
-low blood counts

Aiden watches TV when we are not in the room with him.  Today he watches Toy Story.
Kiss the puppy!
Time to go home!
Put a sticker on the right day!
We have a routine for when he is done his treatment.  He is removed from the straps,
He kisses the puppy bye bye.
Then he gets to pick out a treat.
Then he puts a sticker on the correct day. Then we can go home.
