| Because of neuroblastoma Aiden has lost much of his eye sight. The tumors are located in the occipital lobe of Aiden's brain. Intertwining about the optic nerve which controls messages from the eye to the brain. The pressure has caused these nerves to stop sending and recieving messages from the eye and we have been told the damage is most likely permanent. This seems like the worst part to many people. To Aiden, it is the least of his worries right now. Our #1 concern is our Aiden's health otherwise. When his treatment and protocol is complete, it will be time to focus on his abilities to see and also his development. Being able to see is a major component in a child's development. Aiden will probably need lots of extra help through school and constant appointments with opthamologists to track his progress. The last visit we had with the opthamologist, he told us that there had been no change and that glasses would probably not help him see because the problem is not with his eye; but with the nerve itself. He did recommend that glasses could be used to protect his eyes from sharp objects since we dont want him to lose any of the sight he has now. I am hopeful, however, because when we came to Toronto; Aiden was blind. He couldn't see anything at all. Now, he can pick up a block and tell you what color it is, and is usually correct. He can also point out pictures and name things in books. He can pick up objects off of the floor and give you high five. Aiden is suppose to have another appointment with the opthamologist in the next few weeks. I will update again when we hear something new. |
