to my
Stilley Family Photo Website

I hope you enjoy your visit here at my website  as much as I enjoyed preparing the pages!

I'm Jerry Stilley and although I was actually born in Charleston, Missouri in 1933, my photo story begins in Caruthersville. a Mississippi river town complete with cotton fields, a cotton gin, share-croppers and a levee.

Caruthersville, MO

My parents- -Thomas Kintchen Stilley and Maggie Brooks- - met and married in Kennett, Dunklin County, Missouri in 1920. Dad was 19 and Mother was 15.
Along  with  many other families in this area, they migrated north to work, where the promise of "big money" brought  workers from the fields into  plants in manufacturing jobs.
We lived in Caruthersville until I was nine before we moved north to Flint.  Both my  sisters (Levenia and Betty) and I went to school in Caruthersville.  Levenia was her graduating class Valedictorian.

There are two pages of photos taken in and around Caruthersville during the years we lived there... So, my  photo journey begins there, in Caruthersville (click  to go)

Flint, MI

My father and mother both went into the factories in Flint, and me too, for a while, after I graduated from high school.  We lived at 812 Lewis Street and I went to Flint Central High School.  I graduated in the class of 1951. I married for the first time in 1953 and raised my family in Flint and Detroit. In 1968 after my parents retired, everyone  moved  to Florida.
Next stop in my photo journey is Flint, Michigan.

Notice:

I am deeply saddened to announce that my husband, Jerry Ray Stilley died suddenly on Jan.27, 2005.

His first fiction novel, "Out of the Sun"  which  Jerry  had been working on for many years,  was recently published.  The Mississippi River delta around Caruthersville, his boyhood home, opens the story.   Perhaps some of you would enjoy reading Jerry's work.   "Out of the Sun" is available at both Amazon.com  and at Barnes & Noble for $16.95.

I will continue replying to the e-mails received from so many of you who have written about the web site.  Thanks and God bless!

My life will never be the same without him.

Lynette Stilley
