Stilleys   Moves  from Caruthersville, MO  to   Flint, MI

Maggie and Tom Stilley ... about 1930.

Their first car!

      A little luck always helped...

Mother, age 21  at Pierson Road, in  Flint...

My Dad went to work in the auto factories.
He often told the story about how  he hammered out the first one-piece fender that ever came out of the Flint Chevrolet plant.   Mother worked at AC Sparkplug for 20 years ....

My parents first two sons did not live long.

Both their little boys,  Thomas and Charles, died as infants.  This little fellow is Charles, age 3, born in 1929.....

I  was  born in 1933.

Mother and me c. 1942-43

Taken in a booth downtown  on our way to the movies.

We lived at 812 Lewis Street in Flint when I started junior high school.

I graduated from Central High School in 1951.
This is my dog, Skipper and me...

Can you read what it says on the side of the truck?

"Stilley & Son, General Hauling" .

I used to help Dad after school and on weekends...

In 1954, I got married. and we moved to
Oak Park, in Detroit.

Here I am in 1956
holding my oldest
daughter, Cheryl,
as son Jeff looks on.

All of my 5 kids are grown.  My oldest son, Jeff is a grandfather now.

Time flies, as we all know.  Maybe one day I'll make pages for all the kids, the grand-kids, and  great grandkids.  Life is a wonderful cycle.

Ten years ago, I took up writing, which I really enjoy doing.  In fact, my first novel, "Out of the Sun", will be published in 2004.  We are currently busy with the re-write, which keeps both Lynne and myself occupied.

I'll end now by sharing a couple of my favorite Irish proverbs- - -

        "Time is a good storyteller."

        "Patience can conquer destiny."

"The longest road out is the shortest road home."

... and my favorite, "The older the fiddle, the sweeter the music."

Hope you enjoyed your visit!
