What is World Class Alternative?
World Class Alternative is a mix of Alternative, Independent Artists, New
Wave, and Triple A (World Class Rock). World Class Alternative is a Modern
Alternative based station that will play songs that have the blend of
familiar and unfamiliar. You'll never go too long without hearing a new,
old, or unfamiliar song that you love. This is just not Alternative it's
"World Class Alternative.
Who are you?
My name is Jerr and I live in Boise ID (hence the JerrSpud user name). I’m
in my thirties now, and I work for a large company that makes computer
chips (yes chips in Idaho hahaha like I never heard that). I’m married
with one daughter. My favorite food is hamburgers and I’m an Aquarius (who
cares).
What got you into music?
Well that goes back several years. Ever since I was eighteen I really got
into playing music and being a DJ. I went to Radio Shack and bought a
cheap mixer and I just stared making mix tapes. I never really got into
the whole mixing and scratching type of DJ. I was just playing music I
liked. I was working full time as an electrician, and I decided to start
my own mobile DJ business. About a year later I had the opportunity to
work for a radio station part time and that eventually turned into a full
time job. I worked in radio at a few different stations, and I had a great
time.
If you’re already a DJ why did you want your own station?
I worked full time in radio for about five years. I worked everything from
the overnight guy to morning show co-host, but I never got the opportunity
to program a station. I also had a family that deserved a more stable
career. So I left radio in 1999, and I got a normal job. After being gone
from radio for a couple of years I realized I really missed it. I wasn’t
regretting my decision to leave radio; I just missed it. In 2002 I had the
opportunity to get back into radio part time on the weekends and do fill in
work. I never wanted to be a big famous DJ; I just like playing music for
people.
Through all these years I’ve had my own DJ business and a love for music,
but working in radio you never get to play what you really want. I’ve been
listing to Live365 since about 2000 and I have always had this idea in the
back in my head. In January of 2006, I just finally broke down and decided
to start my own station.
What made you play this music?
I like a few different types of music. I still listen to top 40 and the
alternative rock stations here in town, but I always found myself listing
to the stuff I had myself more. Back in the old days, I always wanted to
have my own radio station. I also needed the practice being a DJ, and I made
some tapes of myself working at my imaginary station called “The Music
Sensation.” This format that I use now is just an extension of what I used
to do for fun in the mid 90’s.
Most of the music is from the library that I already had, and some of the
music is just stuff that I’ve heard on other Live365 stations or radio
that I love. Of course my favorite bands are The Cure, Depeche Mode,
Counting Crows, and Cold Play, so expect to hear those bands a lot. There
is also some stuff from the 80’s, some 90’s stuff, new stuff, and “What
the hell is this song” kind of stuff as well.
What is your goal?
My goal is just to have a good music station that I can listen to with
nothing too hard and only a few slower songs. I want a medium tempo
station that I can listen to at work and enjoy, with songs I know and love
and a few that I don’t know but sure sound good. If other people,
especially my wife, then that is just an added bonus. |
