DO YOU KNOW WHY "GRINGOS' ARE CONFUSED IN A RODA...??

PERHAPS THE ANSWER IS BECAUSE BRs MESTRES ARE: MES$ - !?

THIS RODA REFERS TO THE CHAMADA THAT MESTRE DERALDO, LIVING IN THE USA, SEND A PROTEST AGAINST THE AMERICAN TEACHER THAT DOES NOT FOLLOW IN THE WAY 'ANGOLEIROS' MUST GINGA... AND THE GAME PROGRESSED AND INVOLVED OTHER MESTRES AS; COBRA MANSA, LUA DE BOBO.. ETC...

I APOLOGIZE IF I CAN'T GET AT THE PRESENT ALL THE TRANSLATIONS TO THIS GAME... PLEASE CHECK OUT THE PORTUGUÊS LINK.

Draven - your community Capoeira in the US,

The accusation that Deraldo told us. Either because mestre$ are competing for the market of Capoeira... Roda (?) or... ???

I will be very happy to have them playing the game to the public, to U "gringos"... if they can ginga in tune and reply with honour and respect to Capoeira, ourselves.

My translation, from parts of Deraldo's chamada of corruption inside the angoleiro way of life 2004:

I (mestre Deraldo) don't let nobody with no Fundamento de jogo, etc, to teach Capoeira with the title of instructor, etc. I would like to inform that my name, Me. Deraldo, is now displayed at the webside http://www.katuahcapoeiraangola.com - the person in charge, you Darven, took a ffew 5 classes with me and later came back and told me that was teaching classes. I told Darven that he didn't have any fitness' to use this title. After many years I see my name in his website using as support to his Capoeira business. What makes me even more upset is that this kind of people are taking Capoeira to the wrong way and have the support of a Mestre, yet I informed the mestre about this situation.

**At this point Deraldo does not mention Cobra mansa. I went to Darven web and realised that was Cobra and sent the note to the Roda with the full information. *** follows...

It has been 18yrs that I arrived in that US and was the pioneer to introduce Capoeira where I live. I did not graduate many students. These are some of the names I can give:

Contra Mestre Manhoso, 16 anos que esta treinando comigo
Treinel, Agi Sard, 11 anos
Treinel, Bahiano, 9 anos
Treinel, Toca, 9 anos

I have many students but only these I graduated in the presence of mestres Joao grande, lua de bobo, moraes, Cobra, braga, ped de chumbo, etc.

My chamda is to alert everybody that in my oppinion those that want to became something worth teaching Capoeira must respect our sistem (*I guess, the 'angoleiro pastiniano') and do not take advantage sayng that since there's nobody available to teach they will the take the teacher label and use it to their own way - the worst is that mestres from BR accept this way, it should not be like that.

Dear Draven,

Last time I saw you here in my school.  You became upset when I seperated you from the advanced students to train with the beginner students.  The movement I was teaching the advanced students was not for you.  You came to me very upset and told me you were advanced.  I asked "Since when?".  You told me you had been teaching Capoeira.  I told you what you were doing was wrong and you said you needed to eat.  I told you that I don't have any respect for people that do that.  You asked me if I had any respect for you and I said as a capoeirista no, but as a human being yes.

I read the email you sent to all of the people on this mailing list.  You said I turned my back to your family.  I never knew you had any family in Capoeira at that time.  I turned my back to you becuase the way you started - it is so wrong.  I never want to be part of anything you start.
Please stop lying that you trained here for 3 yrs and that I was upset that you did not choose me to be your Mestre.  I never knew who you were.  People like you come and go here everyday.  I have been teaching more than a thousand students.  I have students with high quailty skills in Capoeira that I never ask to teach because the time is not right for them.  I always send my students to the other Mestres when they move out of town because to teach you need to speak Portuguese, have more than 5 years of solid experience with a Mestre and high level skills.  The music and history of Capoeira Angola is rich with meaning - how can you understand and develop if you don't know Portuguese?  In your email you mentioned that I was upset that you did not choose me as your Mestre - for me that is a joke.  I am very serious about what I am doing and I have a high reputation to carry on.

If I never found my name in your website you could have gotten away with everything without anybody knowing what is going on.  Please stop messing with me.  If you have any questions please call me at 617 547 5343 or email
me.  Please do not keep going on, sending emails to everybody without sending any directly to me.  You know I am right.  I have no reason to lie. Capoeira Angola needs to spread all over the world with honor.  I dedicate my life to preserve my culture and I am afraid of people like you that destroy it.  You show to me, and to anybody that cares, that you do not
carry proper respect.

Could you please remove my name from your website immediately.  Please do not email anything with my name attached.  This is the second email I have sent directly to you and I am very clear what I want from you.

Sincerely,

Mestre Deraldo

to mestre jeronimo, participants in this "roda".........thank you for being patient for our reply.since it is our grupo being attacked and not just myself,it is only fit that we should discuss the situation in sunday roda so there is no misunderstanding and that all can add their opinion. even if i was the only one under attack, i would still counsel w/ my capoeira family and seek the guidance of those i respect.
i wish to thank first  master jeronimo for being the voice of reason in this roda, and for offering to translate to those not familiar w/ our grupo or language. it was he that first informed us of M. deraldo's concern ( we were never sent a message!!). muito obrigado for your sense of fairness master jeronimo.
KCA  will release an official statement to the capoeira world in hopes to clarify our position and intent as a group. this statement will be added to our website so all may view it. the website and all the information contained was created to not just inform others of our existance, but to clarify in the open why it is neccessary to exist. we have no secrets and
and are proud of our contribution to the growth of capoeira in north america.
as for the rift between M. deraldo and myself, i can only say this:..he has never forgiven me for not accepting him as my master . i studied for three years ( not exclusively in boston, but in several schools)before choosing master cobra mansa to be the example i most valued in capoeira. i will not apologise for this choice. those that have trained w/ this group are told to seek out their own master, but NONE have seen the neccessity to find another.   i have directed many from our group to train in boston, regardless of the bitterness and deceit deraldo has offered me. i only seek to return the gift of capoeira that i have received .
i have received several e-mails (some anonymous!!_) from masters and students condemning us and our group in hateful and arrogant language..............do you judge so quikly in the roda against your "opponent", or do you watch, listen and familiarise yourself with him/ her before having an opinion?? this activity goes against the fundamentals of community as well as capoeira.
let us all act responsibly in this roda.
with muito respeito and love for all masters and students alike..........viva meu mestre, axe' capoeira....draven (ponytail) and katuah capoeira angola

also, our statement will be released during the final roda of master cobra mansa's workshop, aug. 29

**with respect I replyed to him...

> Hi Shima! Hows it going??? Fine I hope. Thanks for e-mail me. I aprecited your dedication with capoeira going to Australia and Brazil to practice. Maybe you are undertanding what capoeira really means???!!!!. All of Capoeira players have to do that, to really know and learn more and more about Capoeira. For who dont live in Brazil, 9 months is so much time to learn this art. I think you had a nice practice not learning just capoeira but learning brasilian culture as well. Also, that is important to capoeira understanding. About Capoeira teaching, I cant advise you about this matter. For me Capoeira is project of live used to help and growing the afro-brasilian culture, somebody with needs, I like do it. Also, is live style, etc not just to enjoy myself and others. If you can or not teach in Asahi culture center, I dont know because I am not the owner that place. They will decide what they want do. If they called you and asked you to do, you are luck, because they didint called me!!!!!!! to say that: You cant teach capoeira any more, Lopes....I was upseted and supreised as well. So, Your mind is your guide man. If you have so much confidence and ability to teach Capoeira go ahead. I dont know what kind Capoeira you are learning and with who.  So, I just can say becarefull and take care  with capoeira and brazilian culture as well.  If you are going to Asahi Culture Center to teach good luck, and more than this, becarefulll with those people over there because, they are special public, they are not young people and you have really know what to do with them (what kind of exercise do,etc) and where you want to go (goals)and how (planing). About my visa, I am trying get a visa job as soccer coach, my profession. Thanks a lot to show me you interest in help me. If I am going to Fukuoka, I dont know, because nobody told me to do it yet. Now, I am living in Hiroshima  and if I can help someone I will do so. But, teaching capoeira through e-mail and phone call is impossible. If you need some thing take me at there or come here, please. Another way and person who can help you could be Takayma from Nagasaki, you can talk to him if you want. He are studing so much about capoeira and you and he could change informations to improve yours capoeira knowledges. Thanks so much again, good luck builting capoeira in Japan. My regards, Lopes
