It's coming...You can almost taste it.
The NHL playoffs are coming. Aww shit.
Some computer / internet stories, and things to look forward toI don't really have anything to post today, so I thought I'd post a couple
ZDNet stories I read late last night some time. Their stories seem unbiased, but I can't help but feel that there is a bias in their articles. It's weird. I wonder who owns this company. Or maybe they write articles for the dumb consumer in mind. I don't know. But anyways:
* Intel is getting close to the 2 GHz mark. To your everyday user, this makes Intel's Pentium 4 seem like a great work of art. Too bad AMD's Athlons can achieve the same boost in performance with slower clock speeds (Atholon 1.2 Ghz is as good as a P4 1.5 Ghz, and they're cheaper, too). Also, why is Intel always trying to make their CPU's even faster while bus speeds have remained the same speed for a very long time? Bus speeds matter, too.
* AOL is going to have to do something if they don't want to get "own3d" by Micro$oft. This article confuses me a bit though: "The Microsoft-commissioned report, conducted by Jupiter Media Metrix, showed MSN Messenger had edged out AIM in worldwide usage in February. Although AIM continued to hold the lead in the United States, a separate market study found that MSN Messenger had closed that gap as well since September 1999." Does anyone know someone who uses MSN Messenger? I don't. I bet each Hotmail account has a MSN Messenger account by default. I'd rather have numbers of active users for all of the IM services out there.
Whatever.
You may have a new survey to fill out in the next day or two. It's for one of my classes, and it pertains to IM usage. My group is hoping to get a few hundred entries for this survey, assuming we don't get a couple thousand. Heh. So, spread the word and make this project / survey seem relevant.

What the hell?Nedstat did something bad to my G site's
counter. Now I can't tell how many people from Malta or the Faroe Islands have visited my site. :(
That's kinda why I got the counter in the first place. :( That and it doesn't go down as often as other free counters. Now I gotta create a Nedstat account to get some of the cool information it kept track of back. How queer.
Hillary isn't looking to move up from senatorshipFormer first lady Hillary Clinton declared today that
she has no intention of running for president. Ever. Oh well. I thought it would be kinda neat if she did run at some point. Although most people seem to hate the Clintons, they're a hell of a lot cooler than who we have currently in charge. Plus, she'd be our first woman president, a job I think she could handle. The drawback of this is while George Washington is a great template to follow for male presidents (you know, for being the first president of the U.S. and all), do you think any future woman presidents would want to be like Hillary? *shrug*
But if she did run in 2004, she probably would not win according to this other writer.
But I guess we'll never know. Unless she changes her mind. You know, sort of like George W.'s environmental policy. Heh.
Nero warezAny idea as to what to do with Nero (*.nrg) files? I have a not-so-legal copy of a game and it came as two huge Nero files (probably one for each CD), but I can't extract their contents until I burn them on CD. I'd rather not burn them to CD, though. I don't have that many left, and I got a 2X recorder. :p I just want to "unzip" them onto my desktop or something. That'd be great.
Email me if you have a clue as to what I can do. :p

The beer squirrel's drinking buddies?Looks like the
beer squirrel has some friends! Here's... uh...
drunk squirrel #1. And here is his (possibly dead) partner in crime,
drunk squirrel #2. Thanks
Jake for the pics.
I want the community features, damn you!As much as I love the fact that
Tribes 2 is out, it would be nice if their community features worked as well. They've been down for a week, for crying out loud. I understood when they took those parts down to feed the starving authorization servers (to play, you gotta register first, and... well... the game just came out and 15,000 registrations a day hurts like hell. :p), but... god damn. I want to abuse the community tools! *sigh* I mean, I do enjoy causing hell to all who oppose me with my spinfusor and grenade launcher, but... I need more than that.
Make it happen, Dynamix and Sierra. Make it happen.

George W. Bush stories of the dayOoh, first off,
That's My Bush premieres tonight on Comedy Central. I'm not sure what time it's on, but it's made by the same guys that brought you
South Park. You better watch it.
Anyways, story time:
* The Great Divide - A lighthearted European take to America and how Bush is a tool. It's worth reading, although its "quality journalism" starts dissipating near the article's end, especially when the author mentions that "[America has] fear of offending the Bill of Rights and Constitution." Duh, it's the law of our land, Asshole. Issues include the Kyoto agreement, Cuba, guns, religion, and some other stuff.
* The World: A Primer - Another European article; this one kinda shows Bush's view of the world. I like their description of China: Big country rumoured to have a population almost as large as California's. Leadership has shown communisticalist tendencies in the past, but economy now represents major potential opportunities for Beanie Babies and Dunkin' Donuts. Hehe. Columbia, Ireland, and Alaska have good descriptions, too.
* France turns heat on Bush - More news about Bush and the Kyoto Agreement and how as one of the world's biggest polluters, we're gonna keep polluting and tapping into oil. Hell, we're 15% above the set levels for 1990. Too bad we should be 5% below 1990 levels by 2012.
You bastards who voted for this maggot (hehe, that's what my Mom calls him) are... I don't know. I'm speechless. *sigh*
Say these five times fast:I'm not the fig plucker, nor the fig plucker's son
But I'll continue plucking figs 'til the fig plucker comes!
--------------------------------------------
I am a mother pheasant plucker.
I pluck mother pheasants.
I'm the most pleasant mother pheasant plucker
who ever plucked a mother pheasant.
Speaking of Tomb Raider...It looks like there's some newly released trailers for the movie. Check out the middle left of your screen after loading
this page. You'll need
Quicktime to view it.
The Rock to star as Duke Nukem? The Rock must be a busy guy. First, he has to maintain his immortality in the
WWF, then he's starring in the sequel to
The Mummy (called
The Mummy Returns), and there's even potential for a third movie in
The Mummy series called
The Scorpion King, which is the Rock's character in the second movie. Heh.
Wanna see the Rock with blond hair? You just might if the Rock wants to be the main character in the Duke Nukem movie. Too bad all movies based on video game titles suck ass. I don't even think the Rock can save it. Heh. Which movie will suck more: Tomb Raider or Duke Nukem?
This story was stolen deliberately from ShackNews.

In the newsThere really isn't that much going on in the world today. Our "relationship" with China continues to dwindle, Bush is still an idiot, and those tools over in the Middle East won't stop fighting one another. Some things continue not to change.
But I did find these interesting stories courtesy of Metafilter. I can always count on that site for good, random stories:
* San Diego bans the use of the word "minority." How odd, especially since Caucasians were going to be added to the minority list as well. :p
* "Hi, I'd like a pound of human flesh, thinly sliced please." *shudder* Now that's just gross.

Another useless postI was kinda bored, so I went to
Something Awful since they tried to convince people that their site was being taken down yesterday. Today, they announced it was a prank. Go figure. On April Fools Day, no less. But I had to share their story about the prank:
Unless you're a total raving idiot, you probably weren't fooled by our last minute April Fool's prank. I take full responsibility for the entire shenanigan, outside of the CDI logo, which was Lowtax's fine handiwork. Yes, we did get some emails from people that were fooled. And I don't really blame them, since we all know that everything you read on the Internet is totally true, 100% accurate, and meticulously researched… on every day except April Fools! I remember that as a kid I poured a bowl of sugar on my dad, screamed "April Fools," and laughed my ass off for hours because I thought I had just pulled the cleverest prank in the history of the universe. HAHA APRIL FOOLS!
I just loved the "pour sugar on Dad" part. I can picture that happening. Too damn funny. Hehehehe!
"You think you're better than me?"It turned out that I did have a fine day today. I didn't really do anything worthwhile, but at least it didn't suck. Hoorah!
Although I do have a small problem with people telling others 100% false statements about me and what's been going on in my life here at college. If you are such a perpetrator: grow up. That's so damn childish. I'd assume you'd have better things to do with your time than make it seem like I'm someone I'm not, or totally skew my current financial situations. Word does eventually get back to me, so you aren't really fooling anyone. And stop worrying my mother. She doesn't need this bullshit.
And since such the recent statements come from people with no integrity, it has no weight. No concern of mine. Heh.
Who else wants to try and ruin me? :) Bring it on!
*sigh*Woke up. Showered. Shaved. Did my other morning things.
Became hungry. Poured some Raisin Bran into a bowl. Opened the fridge door. No milk. God damnit. *cries* Someone's getting a shot to the groin for now getting more milk.
And how convenient. No more bagels. Nothing worthwhile in the freezer. I could have toast. Nah. Toast is dumb. I'll have to settle with a glass of orange juice. I'm gonna be in a sucky mood until lunch time, now. :p I gotta have my breakfast.
Today is going to be a great day. Yeah. Right.

The unassisted Pacific-crossing solo rower guyI've known about this for a few days, but
this old dude is the man. 274 days is a long time to be in a boat. I wonder what he did for food and unsalted water, since he was unassisted.
Best quote in the above article was what he said about the great white shark that attcked his boat some time during his crossing: The boat is called Le Shark so maybe they thought they were mating or something. Hehehe.
Calm as Hindu cowsThis is for you, Jon: click on
the mysterious link. This link stolen courtesy of Metafilter.
Studies show that my simple site can be hard to useA couple days back, I sent my mom a pair of links to my wonderful posts (
1 |
2) about my wonderful situation about having to stay in wonderful Troy for another wonderful month. Hey, it was easier than copying and pasting everything I said in those posts. Plus she wasn't online at the time, making ICQ an excellent medium (email is for sissies, heh).
Anyways, she said she found my "archive thing" hard to decifer. Hehe. Was I not clear enough from the first post to the second? Were the sea of links in the first post too much? Whatever. I'm sure everyone else understands what happens. If not, oh well. I don't care. Not my problem. Heh. Then again, my mother isn't the most internet / computer-literate person in the world, but she can cook like nobody's business. :) Mmmm... apple pies...
YayFinally got over
300 hits in a week for
my G site. Not bad, seeing how the site gets updated once every two or three weeks and I don't do jack nor squat to try and increase the amount of traffic I get. Happy happy joy joy.
Ooh! And I got a hit from Venezuela, Singapore, and Ireland today. Sweet.
