Three Techniques for Building Suspense
Raising Story Questions
This is one of the easiest ways. Asking story questions builds anticipation. The reader is able to wonder and worry along with the writer.


Word Clues
This technique hooks the reader by holding back a critical piece of information. The reader will need to read on in order to discover the missing piece.


The Magic-Of-Three
This technique uses three hints that lead up to a discovery. Students often enjoy using this technique.
