| Title: Whatever Makes You Happy [4/6] Author: Poephelia Disclaimer: I don't own Gundam Wing or Radiohead's "Creep." Whatever Makes You Happy Heero blinked in the mid-morning stillness. There was only enough light in the room for him to make out the slightly disturbing shape of another person beside him. He quickly did a mental check, but all he could remember was showing up at Trowas at half past nine, in a mood for some reason. He couldnt remember exactly what was on his mind. Obviously, things had not gone as planned. He took another look at the slumbering outline lying next to him. Heero became aware of a slight pressure on his right hand. Slowly, not wishing to disturb the person beside him, he withdrew his hand. Soft fingers skated across his palm as the figure shifted in sleep, and Heero got a better look at his bedfellow. Strands of unruly chestnut hair decorated Duos brow and flew in several directions as he sighed in his sleep. Heero swallowed hard. No wonder he had dreamed about Duo. Heero crept out of bed and stole down the hall. This house was not unfamiliar to him, hed been here many times before...just never in the bedroom. He quickly put the pieces together. Hed shown up at Trowas worried about...something, gotten extremely drunk, and; instead of being left at his own home alone, Duo had brought him here. A steady rhythm broke him of his wonderings and Heero opened his eyes to find himself in Duos bathroom. A bead of water caught the light spilling in from the hallway, glistened briefly, then dribbled subtly into the sink, creating another beat in the perpetual rhythm. Heero stepped inside and promptly twisted the 'cold' knob as far right as it would go. The dripping ceased. Heero sighed, closed the door, and got undressed. He felt dirty for some odd reason. Reaching into the shower, he turned on the warm water and let the mist soothe away his confusing dream. Duo heard the banging of the water heater and blinked, disoriented for a moment by the obvious fact that there was someone else in his house. Then he remembered. Heero. Duo yawned and looked over to the vacant side of the bed. There was the washcloth, now dried and folded neatly on Heeros pillow...and there was his curled hand, empty. Duos mouth went dry. How would he explain the reasoning behind holding Heeros hand? He rolled out of bed and padded to the living room, ignoring the loose strands of hair that hung in front of his eyes like a curtain, and reached for the phone. Trowa answered on the second ring, apparently more awake than Duo. "Hello?" "Hm...oh, hey Trowa. Listen, I was wondering if you could bring Heeros car by in a bit." "Yeah, sure. Is he okay?" Duo listened for a second to the sound of the falling water in the shower. He caught himself wondering what it would be like to wash those broad shoulders... "Duo?" "Huh...? Oh geez," Duo laughed a little "Its been a long night. Yeah, hes fine. Hes in the shower right now. There were a few scary moments, but I dont think he even remembers most of it." "Alright. See you in a few." "Mmhmm...oh and thanks, Trowa." "No problem." Duo hung up the phone with a sigh and rubbed his eyes. He heard the water stop in the bathroom and resisted the urge to walk calmly down the hall, fling open the bathroom door and ask Heero how he was feeling. Instead, he flopped down onto the couch and groaned. Something had definitely happened in the last twelve hours. What it was and why it was were unclear at this present juncture, but there was certainly something different in the way he thought about Heero. He wasnt just a comrade anymore, and Duo didnt exactly know why. Just as he was drifting back off into a sleep he didnt know had claimed him, Duo heard a loud crash followed by small tinkling sounds. His first thought was for Heero. Was he hurt? Duo sprang from the couch and walked quickly down the hall toward the bathroom door. Duo didnt even bother knocking...hell, it was his house. He just opened the door and barged in. What greeted him was a welcome of a most unexpected nature. |
