It's true, when you think about it, people for many centuries have lived in the shadow of volcanoes. In 1980, before Mt. Saint Helens erupted, local residents were reluctant to leave their homes, even knowing what might happen one day. Besides the postcard scenery, what is it that keeps the people from moving away? How have volcanoes influenced our culture?
You and your colleagues represent a team of specialists working for National Geographic. You have been asked to produce a short documentary that addresses the above questions. Together you will research an active volcanic region and demonstrate how it has affected the lives of the people nearby.
