".. like oedipus rex"
wednesday, march 6, 2002
i swear this office can switch into crazy modes. i left to get lunch, came back and.. there was a freestyle rhyme session going on. phonte, who used to work here, was visiting, and he and another guy were rhyming to a beat from the computer.
soooo funny. they referenced anything, a lot of movies and actors (mel gibson, denzel washington, the legend of bagger vance, any given sunday and a bunch of other stuff) and.. greek literature?
it was so funny! phonte compared himself to being worthy of an epic by homer, and being better than the iliad, and the other guy made a rhyme (i can't remember it verbatim, but this is close to it): "(i'll) fuck my mother, fuck my father, fuck all the rest, i'm fucking oedipus rex!"
okay, gross, but absolutely hilarious. or as our fave teacher who taught us about the epics said when we told her: "good to see you guys are paying some attention. i think." .. hahaha.
i think i'm doing another radio broacast over audionet tonight. i might even speak. operative word being might. and truitt said he'll make sure the webcast is working, so..
if you want to attempt and hear me do goatgirl radio (i'm a bit nervous again about speaking, and i have yet to finish the setlist, but.. ) tonight, 8-10 p.m. EST, you can try the audionet website, or go directly to the webcast area and hopefully it will be up and running by then.
and you don't have to mention it to me, because it'll just make me nervous. if i can muster up the energy, i'll at least read you a couple of campus psa's, and tell you what the weather is like... and play some songs. i'll tell the proposed setlist before i go down to the studio tonight.
also, i need to say that the osbournes on mtv last night is seriously the funniest, freakiest thing i've watched in a long time. ozzy is scaring me a bit because he seems very much like a shell of a person (and who can blame him?), but every now and then he re-energizes.
and i love the way the entire family curses like, well, motherfuckers! the son, jack, is such an oddball (him running around the pool area in full army regalia and stabbing a cardboard box with a bayonett was so surreal!), kelly is sooooo teen moody, and sharon's there to tie it all together.
yet i loved the family warmth permeated through it all. a 15-year-old son sitting down with his dad to watch the history channel, not objecting to his dad's arm across his shoulder was way cool. ozzy telling his kids not to drink, not to do drugs and if they were gonna fuck, use a condom, was so.. good! that's how you do it! you repeat it and you mean it and you care.
i was seriously scared when ozzy laughed crazily and out loud at jay leno jokes, while later ozzy and their security guard watched the broadcast of ozzy performing on the leno show. ozzy was miming along the words with himself singing on the screen, while the security guard had a look of "what the fuck is he doing on that stage?"
i think this show is going to be a clear favorite, perhaps even above buffy the vampire slayer, this semester. hee! cin cin. 3:04 p.m.
...
scatch that--won't do the show tonight. truitt asked me if i was ready to fly solo and.. hrm. no, i'm not. i could do a show like last week where i only alternate music with already taped psa's and station id's, but.. nah. besides, without truitt, the webcast won't be up, so it wouldn't matter anyway.
i'll simply fire things up before i leave to visit gene and make up 3 solid setlists and then go for it until i run out of semester. it's been a bit half-assed for now to say the least, but whatever. :)
another reason i don't reeally wan't to do it tonight is because.. the osbourne family is being repeated on mtv at 6.30 tonight, and i must catch it! it wasn't subtitled, and i think any ozz-fan, of any capacity, know and cherish his tendency to, hrm.. under-enunciate. hee hee!
plus, the show was hysterical! i laughed the entire time. i keep remembering funny moments. like the stunned wtf?? expression on ozzy's face when he tried to figure out his new super high-tech remote control to change the channel, and the cell phone rang, and he couldn't figure out where the ringing came from, or if he set it off with the remote. priceless!
i urge ANYone reading this to give the show a try. it's absolutely surreal, and fall down funny, the kids fight exactly like siblings do (the violent chases and the whining), the pets are insane, ozzy's permanently dazed, and sharon is there to save the day. beam. yes, i am smitten. :D plus, it helps that there is maybe an episode of csi on tonight.. i think? anyway. cin cin. 5:32 p.m.
