alright.. so, i did my second show of goatgirlradio tonight. truitt couldn't come to the actual studio, so i never actually spoke this time either (despite actually wanting to!). he freaked me out, because i had just sat down at the computer to pull up the songs i wanted to play when the pointer-arrow suddenly went nuts.
i thought it was a poltergeist until it went down to start, opened a notepad and typed: "JEANIE! PICK UP THE PHOOOOOONE!!!" .. oh. apparently, truitt has remote admin control over the audionet computer. who knew?
so i picked up the phone and he guided me through how to make the transition from the automated studio setlist and into my own. i went from dr dre straight into joan jett's "bad reputation." hee.
i hadn't actually made a setlist, but with 140+ songs on one cd, that's not exactly a problem. i played the following --though not always in the order they appear, it feels like it's pretty close:
joan jett - bad reputation
hole - make me over
placebo - johnny and mary
gavin rossdale - glycerine (live)
bjork - pluto
kate bush - get out of my house
titiyo - come along
skunk anansie - weak
aimee mann - wise up
rufus wainwright - april fools
pj harvey - memphis
jeff buckley - hallelujah
doris day - perhaps, perhaps, perhaps
no doubt - just a girl
the vapors - turning japanese
heather nova - i have the touch
alanis morissette - hands clean (live)
ani difranco - both hands
kristin hersh - me & my charms
bjork - hunter
kate bush - this woman's work
sarah maclachlan - icecream
smashing pumpkins - goodnight
yes. pj's memphis and buckley's hallelujah went together. and i find it funny to see i played three "hands" songs in a row.. "you've washed your hands clean of this" .. "with both hands in each other's shadows" and "i pick the angel up, i only have two hands" .. slap me, why don't you?
so it's about half an hour into the show, right, and i'm in the middle of bjork's pluto when the phone rings. i figure it's truitt, right? wrong. it's a girl wondering "what's up with the radio? i don't like this stuff, what's going on?" ...oops.
i explained that my name's jennie and that i was in the middle of my scheduled two-hour "alternative" block, and that if she didn't like it, she could always tune back in at 10 p.m. for the guy after me who has a neo-soul show. way to go, jennie--alienated my audience in less than half an hour! ..heh.
right after, truitt called to check up on me. i cussed at him. so much for his calming "no one is listening anyway" comments to get me to speak on the air. frr! :) he just laughed.
anyway. i had a good time. it was good being alone in the studio--i felt a lot more comfortable this second time around. next week i'm going to attempt to do a "real" show, with the talking and the live psa's and everything i'm supposed to do but haven't had to yet because i'm a nervous git.
my black and white photo's came back today--i am absolutely in love with taking black and white pictures. i love the more intense definition to people's faces, and the lucious blends of greys for things blurry. yum. will scan soon enough.
almost time to move into somabish.org again. ruck said he finished the little project he was doing for me so until i, uh, get the result, can't do a thing. but soon. cin cin! 10:24 p.m.
