| Developmental education courses help college students prepare for college-level coursework. In American higher education, community colleges provide the most extensive developmental curriculum. The availability of developmental education is often the crucial element in helping aduts attain an associate's degree and beyond. A majority of adults begin their college careers at community colleges. Also, 40% of students aged 18-25 begin their baccalaureate degrees at community colleges.
