craig: craig kilborn, host
sam: sam rockwell

craig: You may recognize our next guest from movies like The Green Mile and Galaxy Quest. Right now he's in the number one movie in the country, Charlie's Angels. This is Sam Rockwell.

[Applause, Sam Rockwell enters]

craig: You're kinda a bad guy in Charlie's Angels.
sam: Yeah, yeah kinda a bad guy.
craig: You like that?
sam: Yeah it's good. It's, ah .. you know, it's always fun to be kinda naughty, and bad, and all that stuff.
craig: You know, they're not marketing you like they are the women and I'm a little upset. Where's Sam Rockwell on the Billboards on the buses?
sam: Yeah. Yeah
craig: Lucy Liu. Okay, we know Lucy Liu's in the film, got it! You know? We know Cameron Diaz is in it. Where's the Sam Rockwell Bill Board?
sam: Well I don't know all that Matrix stuff, so they, they had to, you know. That's what sells, you know.
craig: Yeah. It's a thrill ride, it's a fun movie.
sam: Yeah, it's fun, it's like ah.. Grease and The Matrix or something.

[laughter]

craig: Now, of the women, or the three gals, who kicks the best?
sam: Who kicks the best?
craig: Who gives the best kick, because I know you received a few from the ladies, right?
sam: Yeah, well...
craig: Say it. [pause] Say it.
sam: Cameron kicks pretty high.
craig: She's a tall lady.
sam: Her kicks are pretty [gestures with his hands and makes a whoosh sound]. I think Drew's got some power.
craig: Drew's got a little power behind it.
sam: You know, and ...
craig: Say what we want to hear. Say what we want.
sam: [laughs] What do you want?
craig: Something about Lucy Liu, anything.

[laughter]

sam: Lucy Liu. I think Lucy Liu's just, ah, she's an all around bad ass. She's just a really ...
craig: She's tough as nails.
sam: Yeah, yeah.
craig: Fun getting kicks by Lucy, right?
sam: Sure, sure. I think anybody would want to get kicked by Lucy.
craig: One of my favorite people in the world is in the movie, Bill Murray.
sam: One of my favorite people in the world.
craig: Just, I'll tell you what, Sam, I'm going to sit back. Just tell me a great Bill Murray story.
sam: I don't know ...
craig: Or an average one, and I'll enjoy it.
sam: Okay, I don't know if it's a great Bill Murray story. But, I was, I really look up to him, and I was really, you know, excited to meet him. And they were doing rewrites, him and Mitch Galer were doing rewrites for my scene, so I knew he was going to come and say something. But I didn't know when and I was doing a scene where I was pointing a gun at Drew, and I was practicing. I had already been kicking it [referring to the gun, when you shoot the gun "kicks"], every time I shot it, but they told me not to kick it. So I was trying not to but I kept messing up, and then I heard this voice and I had this line, where I say "Will you let me know?" And I heard "Try uh, try, will, uh, try will you let me, uh, try will you let me know" and I looked over and it was Bill Murray, and I was kinda, I was a little shaken. And I couldn't quite, so then I kept messing up the gun thing. Then I had to do this gun twirl which I'm pretty good at and then ah ...

craig: He was distracting you
sam: He distracted me, cause I was nervous, I thought of Meatballs and Stripes and all that. Then, you know, I was like "wow, that's Bill Murray." And I kept messing up and McG said "What's wrong Sam?" and then Bill Murray said "Did you want to be an action hero or not?!"

[laughter]

sam: And that was it, that's the story.
craig: He is funny. Do you want to be action hero?
sam: He really is funny. He really is that funny though, that's the thing when you meet him.
craig: Does he drink after? This is what he'll do, you'll shoot the scene with him and he'll go, he'll buy everyone drinks. Did he do that?
sam: No, he didn't do that.
craig: He did that with me.
sam: Did he do that with you?
craig: Yeah.
sam: He's been on the show?
craig: Yeah, he did our first show. Bill's the king.
sam: Yeah he is the king.
craig: You wanna be an action star?
sam: I do, no.

[laughter]

craig: A lot of us enjoyed your work in The Green Mile, I'm sure you get a lot of that.
sam: Thanks.
craig: And you actually, some people think you stole the movie from Tom Hanks. And I don't think you should do that, and I don't think you should work in this town.

[laughter]

craig: That's taboo, why did you do that?
sam: No, nobody could steal a movie from Tom Hanks. Well, there were all these other great actors in it too. Michael Jeeter, James Cromwell, and ah ...
craig: Well all I think about is Sam Rockwell right now, because, well you're here.

[laughter]

sam: Um, yeah, yeah.
craig: Did, ah, Charlie's Angels, are you surprised that it did as well as it did?
sam: I knew it was going to do well, I think, I didn't know it was going to do that well. That's pretty amazing.
craig: Yeah, 40 million.
sam: That's a lot of cash.
craig: Yeah, I always wish that you guys would get some of that. You get a salary but you should get ...
sam: Yeah I should.
craig: Right, don't you think?
sam: Yeah man, I should.
craig: Tell them you're kinda the Hollywood guy now, you hang out, who are some of the guys you hang out with?
sam: Oh, I hang out with my friends in New York, and you know I hang out with ...
craig: Who do you play charades with? I heard the story.
sam: Oh I play charades with, yeah with ...
craig: Charades is fun but it's not that swinging. Right.

[laughter]

sam: There's a running charades game where you run, you give the answer then you run up the stairs, and there's like a bunch of teams. There's a little more action.
craig: Yeah that sounds like fun.
sam: Yeah that's a little more fun.
craig: Is it like in a mansion or what?
sam: No it's not in a mansion. Yeah, it's in the Playboy mansion. Yeah, how'd you know that?
craig: Is that place still open?
sam: I think it is, I've heard some stories.
craig: All right, so who were the guys you hang with?
sam: Oh, are you talking about Vinnie, Vince Vaughn who's come on the show, and Jon Favreau and stuff?
craig: I guess we call him Vinnie Vaughn.
sam: Vinnie Vaughn.
craig: I think it's Mr. Vaughn, yeah.
sam: Yeah, I went to a charades party at his place and we hung out there.
craig: I didn't know it existed 'a charades party'. "Hey Friday night, we got some really hot women we're gonna have a charades party!"

[laughter]

sam: Vince has been on the show right? A few times?
craig: yeah a number of times.
sam: And what's he like as a guest, he must be pretty rambunctious?
craig: He doesn't tell a good Bill Murray story like you do.
sam: Yeah.

[laughter]

craig: Yeah.
sam: You gotta get him to do Elvis, he's a great Elvis.
craig: I've seen every Vince ...
sam: You've seen his Elvis?
craig: I've seen everything he could do, he's very talented, and I enjoy him. I've seen his Elvis, more than I need to see it.

[laughter]

craig: And love Favreau.
sam: Favreau's a very funny guy.
craig: Funny.
sam: [laughing] Yeah he's a great guy.
craig: I'd love to see those two playing running Charades, whatever the hell that is.

[sam's cracking up]

craig: Yeah pleasure meeting you man.
sam: Hey thanks, thanks a lot.
craig: Big hand right here, we'll be right back.
