Vampire Count Warfare
The wave of Death Knights sweeps across the battlefield

1. Introduction

Vampire Count army is one of the undisputed powerful army in the Warhammer Fantasy gamming. Written and redesigned By Alessio Cavatore from GW, the Vampire Counts army relies on fear and necromancy to defeat their enemies. Though most of the undead units are terrible fighters in comparison to other armies, a well co-ordinate attack with the undead horde can be devastating and very often game wining due to their ability, fear.

2. The Versatile Vampire Generals on Foot, Dracula Tactics: shifting of strength.

Like it or not, the Vampires undead legion depends heavily on the vampire himself or other characters for the killing power that they lack to win a tough combat and losing your general in one, the vampire himself, would lead to defeat most of the time as your undead horde starts to crumble immediately once he falls.

To minimize such undesirable situation from occurring, it is always better to have your vampire join the ranks of your infantry blocks on foot and being on foot has its advantages and disadvantages but the former usually out weighs the latter.

The Vampire has a movement value of 6 and being a character on foot that means that he can move at a maximum speed of 12, this allow the vampire to unit hop from one infantry regiment to another which is far away.

As we know, all undead infantry are lousy fighters, they usually strike last and hit badly due to their low weapon skill and initiative, but their strength lies in their ability for being unbreakable.

Now imagine that you have three units of infantry advancing in line against a tough army for example chaos, which too has three units moving to engage your units with their chaos lord directly facing your regiment with the vampire general. A direct confrontation with them would eventually result a prolong fight where the vampire generals regiment fought a stalemate with the chaos lords unit while the other two chaos regiment would crushed the other two undead infantry and eventually flank charge or surround the vampires unit, destroying the vampire by shear combat resolution.

In this case, the vampire high movement comes into play, he can unit hop to another unit before combat is engaged where he will face a much weaker chaos regiment, defeat it and carry on to assist the next regiment in crushing the next chaos unit while the previously undead unit will hold off the chaos lord unit for a while. This way the vampire destroyed two chaos units, preserved two of his own units while at the same time only losing only a unit to the chaos lord.

This example not only shows us that the vampire can get himself where he is most needed in the combat easily, the vampire can also be used as a bait to put opponents powerful character out of position at a good distance. At times the opponent can be caught off guard by such moves, forcing them to revise their battle plan. This tactical shift of strength can be even more easily performed by the Strigoi vampire and the Von Carstien vampire with their movement enhancement blood-line powers.

Just visualize the scene where Count Dracula lure his pursers away from his intended victim, mock at their stupidity in some Transylvanian accent before transforming into a bat to claim his bounty.
