Philosophy
It is the philosophy of the Jenks Drama Department that, at its best, the study of drama/ theater is both an art form and an academic discipline.  "Drama education is process oriented, always more concerned with the integrity of the work well done than with applause."*
"Drama actively involves students as observers, organizers, creators, and evaluations.  Through multi-sensory experiences they are assisted in developing knowledge, skills, creative expression, and values.  The shifting focus from individual to group and form reflection to activity facilitates the development of competencies beneficial to all:  self-esteem social consciousness, and responsible action."**  Drama should be central to the education of all students (as provided by our Introduction to Acting course) as well as an option for long-term concentrated study (as provided by our four-year curriculum offerings) with opportunities for practice in theatrical productions outside the classroom (as provided by our activities).
The Drama Department applauds Jenks Public schools for the recognition of the critical role the fine arts plays in the quest for our Vision 21 objectives and commits all its resources to enhancing student outcomes in the performance goal areas of academic, communication, global citizenship, technology, problem solving, and personal skills.
