Prologue
Chapter 6

"That was a nice surprise." Abs said as the car was out of sight. "Yeah it was really nice to see him again" Scott said. "Oh my gosh!" Alea screamed. "What?" Scott asked her. "I was supposed to be at work four hours ago!! Bye, I gotta go!" Alea said as she kissed Scott and Abs on the cheek. "I don't get it?" Scott said once Alea was gone. "Get what?" Abs asked. "How even though we're married I only get a kiss on the cheek, and you even get a kiss too!" Abs just laughed in response.

"Wow, someone's late!" Nisa said as Alea entered the office. "Man, I know! I'm so behind. When's deadline?" Alea asked. "Tomorrow at nine a.m. on the dot" Nisa said. "Oh shit! I thought deadline was Thursday morning, or Wednesday night. It's always one of those, why is it tomorrow?" Alea asked. "There's some big meeting happening the rest of the week, and they want the articles in so they can be shown in the meeting. And no, I don't know why or who would want our articles for the meeting." Nisa said. "Well I better get going then. I haven't even started yet" Alea said as she quickly turned on her computer.

I am not normally one to talk about my personal life. But this weekend was not what I would call a stress free weekend. I never believed that I had or have changed since I was a teenager. I feel I'm still the same person, just older. And I would assume that most, if not all of you, feel the same way about yourselves. I guess my point is, if I haven't changed, and you haven't changed, why are our lives so different.

Friendship. A word everyone cherishes and wants. Everyone wants to have a person they can be completely honest with. A friend that knows you so well, you don't even have to talk to communicate. Everyone has a friend or group of friends that you feel we're with you through the toughest times in your life. Friends who you believe, if they were not in your life, your life would be completely different.

For the younger readers of this article, it may scare you. To the older readers it may be a page from your own personal biography. Either way this is a scary truth. I personally never thought it could happen, and as it was happening, I never realized it. At one point I stopped visiting, they stopped calling. Who would have thought the end was near. They were my best friends when I was just in high school. They opened a door to me, a door I never noticed before. Suddenly I was in a new place, yet I didn't feel alone. They were my family. But now I know the difference between family and friends. Family is always family, no matter what happens. But friends are not always friends. Even the closest relationships can deteriorate. I should know, mine did.

Me and my friends were very close. And technically at the time they were the closest thing I had to a family for a year. Even after three years of complete separation we were still close friends when I returned. They were at my wedding. I could still talk to them about anything. Suddenly I didn't talk to them at all, I was busy, they were busy. Then I got the phone call, the one where I was told the call would be the last. It is indescribable, the feeling of guilt that you never called as much as you should have. Anger, they could have called too. Confusion, what really happened?

So to all you people who still have good relationships with your friends, remember this story. Because it will be your fate if your not careful. I'm not entirely sure why this happens. But it does, and it's a feeling you never want to have.

To those who this fate has already graced, your not alone.

I don't know what the point of this article is. Or why I even wrote it. It's just something I needed to say. Something I wanted all of you to know.

"Nisa?" Alea called from her desk. "Yeah?" Nisa responded as she continued typing. "If we finish the article, technically we have no work for the rest of the week, right?" Alea questioned. "Well as long as no other publications have requested you. Technically you have the rest of the week off. But your always being called on, how can you not have any other articles to do?" Nisa asked. "I turned down all the other articles this week. I'm gonna head home, I'll see ya next week" Alea said as she grabbed her article and headed out the door.

When Alea arrived back at the house it was only three. The guys were out, so she decided to get some sleep. Scott and Abs returned home at four. "I still can't believe you did that" Abs said laughing. "Alea's gonna kill you!" "Hey, it was for charity. Besides they said it was only temporary." Scott said as he looked at his freshly dyed bright blue hair. "When is Alea gonna be home anyway?" Abs asked. "Well she was four hours late, which means four hours overtime. Probably around nine. Knowing Alea longer" Scott said as the two headed downstairs to watch some T.V.

At 8 o'clock the phone rang. "Must be Alea" Scott said as he picked it up.
"Hey Nisa"
"Hey can I talk to Alea please?"
"Actually she's still at work"
"Scott, what are you talking about. She left just after two this afternoon"
"What?" Scott said alarmed. Realizing it was now 8:15
"She didn't seem like herself today. She rejected all deadlines except her weekly column. Then told me she was taking the rest of the week off"
"Oh, Okay. I better got find out where she's gone too. If you hear anything, call me" Scott said as he hung up the phone.

"What's wrong?" Abs asked his pale friend. "Alea took the rest of the week off and left the office six hours ago. Something's not right. I'm gonna go check around the neighborhood. If she's not feeling well she may be at the coffee shop or something. You stay here" Scott said as he put on his shoes and headed out the door.

Abs thought just to be safe he's take a look around the house. Then just like he though he found Alea asleep. She looked so peaceful. He sat beside her and gently rocked her awake. "Alea" he whispered. "Huh?" she said sleepily. "Time to get up, Scott thinks your missing" he snickered. "What!?" she said, as she sat up. "WE never realized you were home. Nisa called for you, we told her you were at the office and she informed Scott that you left at two. He's out searching the streets for you!" Abs laughed. "How are you feeling?" "Just a bit under the weather. I'll be okay" The two were interrupted by Scott entering the house. "ABS ANY WORD YET!?!?" He ran upstairs to find Alea in bed. "Oh thank god. You scared me" He ran to hug her but to his surprise Alea stopped him. "What the hell did you do to your hair?" Alea screamed. Abs started laughing, he wanted to see this. "What? Oh you mean the color. Well you see me and Abs were shopping and we saw this sign for charity. I didn't want to shave my head so the only other thing to do was to color......" Alea interrupted him, "So instead of choosing a normal color like blond or some other natural color you chose BRIGHT BLUE. What in the world made you do that.........No, wait, don't explain. It will only confuse me more" Alea then walked out. "I think she likes it, don't you?" Scott asked Abs. Abs just laughed and left the room.
