Christianity (108)

Nietzsche feels that Christ came to earth as the Son of God and the Son of Man, he taught humankind how to truly live and how to truly treat others and how we should be towards each other.  He showed us how to act, love, etc.  He feels that Christ was the only true Christian.  I feel that there are Christians and I'm one of them that attempts to be Christian or as defining Christ like.  However, I feel that no one comes close to be completely Christ like.  So therefore I can see how he might say that.  However, I do disagree with Nietzsche in the fact that Christ didn't die to forgive the world, I feel He did, Christ repeatedly said this in the New Testament.

Christianity (115)

Nietzsche feels Paul was full of hatred towards Christ and that he is an extremely bad example of Christianity and that he nailed Christ to the cross.  He states that the ressurrection was merely a hallucination and Paul learned nothing of his life.  This is extremely odd.  Saul was full of hatred towards Christ and Christianity prior to God blinding Him.  After this Saul changed his name to Paul and began teaching Christs teachings, not just that he was ressurrected but ALL OF HIS TEACHINGS!!!!!!!  He showed how Christs examples could be useful to all.  And also Paul wasn't the only one who claimed of sight to the ressurrection, there were plenty of others who witnessed it in documented history.

Free Spirit  (141)

He feels that we should expand our knowledge and our strength, health, etc.  We need to grow as mankind and he feels that we should never be just accepting to our current state.

Higher Humanity (149)

Evidentally he feels that we can overcome ourselves as men and evolve to a higher state of supermen.  He thinks that since we overcame ape, and etc. we can overcame the current state of man if we rid us of the holdbacks.  I worry about how he thinks this since he provides no evidence of the fact.

Joyful Wisdom  (184)

He begs the question if we were to know that our lives would repeat over and over again in the exact same way throughout eternity would we go mad or would we be accepting of this?  I feel he is asking us what knowledge have we gained and are we happy with the trials we might have gone through to learn what we have now.  If yes then we'd probably be OK with this thought, otherwise we might not be OK.

Joyful Wisdom  (210)

Nietzsche feels that the sick and dying invented heaven and hell, and the spirit and Christs redemption and etc.  He feels we should listen to the wealthy and healthy as to what is true and learn from this to become better people.  What happens when those people get sick and dying is my question???
WEEK ELEVEN
Singer begins by describing what ethics is and what it is not.  He states that it is more than just a moral code and more then religion.  He states that the closest definition to it can be the utilitarian view which states that somethings good if it increases happiness to all those affected by the action.  If it doesn't then it is wrong or not good.  He also states the problems that can arise from using a relativistic model.  He applies this to animal rights by using subjectivism.  "When I say that cruelty to animals is wrong I am really only saying that I disapprove of cruelty to animals."  Someone else might say that it is not wrong.  Both statements may then be true or false.  If someone is prepared to defend and to justify what they are doing then they may be actually living up to an ethical code as Singer states.  Singer states one of the most used ethical codes is the golden rule or treating others as you yourself would want to be treated or expect to be treated.  Singer states that we should give each other equality and also we should give non-human animals the same equality.  "our concern for others should not depend on what they are like, or what abilities they possess."  He feels that if a being suffers then we must take into consideration that suffering like we would to ourselves.  Speciests from what I take Singer to say is that these people take the concerns of their own species only and don't care about anything else.  They feel that pain isn't as bad as it is to humans on pigs or mice or cats and etc.  Singer also talks about levels of pain and that we must not let levels of pain that would hurt us hurt an animal.  He also puts the levels of an animal, a baby, and a disabled mentally person at the same and states that if you can do a test to an animal then you should be willing to do it to a baby. and vice versa.  Singer states that the use of animals for food should be due to manditory conditions like an Eskimo hunting for their only food.  Not just for a fun night.  Animal flesh is not eaten for health or for survival but merely as a luxury and for taste as Singer says.  Singer also talks about the farming and industrialization of farming and how we are making animals suffer.  AKA factory farms.  He talks about how mothers are seperated from their young and how males are castrated and etc.  These must cause some form of suffering or pain.  Singer also talks about the different studies that have been done that offer no reason or help to society.  For instance he tells about the story of the US Army base that uses monkeys to test Radiation sickness.  Singer debates the reasoning behind eating animals because they eat each other.  He states that animals do this mostly cause they have to in order to survive.  Singer argues that animals can be a person since they have a perception of self or self-knowledge.  He talks about how the Gardner's used ASL to talk to their chimpanzee and how the chimpanzee caught on and talked back to them logically.  The chimp even raised a young chimp and taught him ASL.  Also the story of Koko the guerilla.  Koko even knew her birthday and what happened.  She even asked for a cat to take care of.  Singer reiterates his above statements using non-humans as people.
