B-Tech Seminar: "Reinforcement Detailing For Earthquake Resistant Structures" This paper deals with salient features of Ductile reinforcement detailing as per IS:13920-1993. for moment resisting frames in seismic prone areas. The ductile frames are shown to resist the induced seismic forces and to dissipate energy through flexural yielding at pre assigned locations known as plastic hinges, with out any increase in load carrying capacity. At plastic hinges, special confining reinforcement are shown to be very effective to provide integrity to member.
M-Tech Seminar: "Intelligent Base Isolation" Seminar paper deals with the development of an isolation system that can be effective for a wide range of ground excitation, intelligent control strategies, consisting of a passive isolation system combined with actively controlled actuators prove to be efficient. A base isolation system that can adapt to, and protect against, seismic excitation of differing characteristics may help mitigate these problems. The advantages of intelligent base isolation systems are high performance in reducing vibration, the ability to adapt to different loading conditions, control of multiple vibration modes of the structure.
