My #1 greatest movie of all time is an anime, possibly one of the best in the business. It's "End of Evangelion", the grand finale to the post-apocalyptic robot anime, "Neon Genesis Evangelion" which was made by the good people of GAINAX in the late 90's.

For those people who don't know Eva's original plot, the anime is a metaphorical representation of the book of Revelations. In the year 2001, a great catastrophe called the 2nd Impact occured. This resulted in the melting of the polar ice caps and the release of the apocalyptical entities called the "angels". NERV, an organization tasked in defeating the angels, saught the aid of "special" youth who were born on the time of the 2nd Impact. These special children now piloted Evangelions, immense synthetic battle robots who could run based on the pilot's concentration. Simple you might add? If so, think again. The anime is possibly a point in a viewers life where he/she might ask, "What do we live for?". Being an anime that dabbles on religion, we are often called to answer very important questions about ourselves. In fact, it's too complicated to describe here. If you're interested to learn more about the anime (besides the bloody mech battles) please visit any of the million Eva websites.
Anyway about the movie, it wishes to end the entire Evangelion series with a bang. It is based on the final chapter of Revelations where a new world is created. We go back to the book of Genesis in the final part, where Shinji Ikari (the main hero-1) and Asuka Langley Souryu (the main hero-2) become the last (or first?) people on the planet. They become the "new" Adam and Eve who must recreate humanity. The movie presents the highest mood setters in the series. Too many exciting points to actually mention; whether it be that Eva-02 be mangled by the Eva-series, Rei Ayanami (the main hero-3) finally becoming one with "Lilith" the Mother and taking the souls of all people on Earth or when Eva-01 becomes a God after Shinji sacrifices his memories in making the new world, it's all too good. A great end to a great series.
