Mint (m)
This card is fresh out of the pack, and has never been played.
There are absolutely no marks, stains, nicks, or wear anywhere
on the card. The edges and corners must be perfect. The card
must be centered perfectly, with no ink
stains, or manufactures defects. This grade is usually fount on
cards straight form the pack. Very few cards will ever receive
this grade.
Near-Mint (n)
This is a card with no marks, tears, or dents. The edge of
the card should have no white flecking. There may be some
slight signs of handling, although no major damage. Some minor
print defects or off-center is acceptable. Most cards will be
near-mint when they come out of the pack.
Excellent (e)
This is a card that will appear to be mint when examined only
briefly or thru a card sleeve. There may be some small nicks,
or flecking along the edges of the card. Small scratches or
scuffing on the front or back of the card would also drop the
card from near-mint to this level. There is still no major damage
or flaws on the card.
Fine (f)
This card has a lightly played look to it and will have light
play whitening present on up to all 4 edges of the card, but
not to a substantial amount in the center of the card. There
are still no distinguishing marks, creases, or scratches. The card
would be playable in any deck, other then an all mint deck, where
it might stand out. This card might be slightly off center, or
have signicicant flaws on the front of the card.
Good (g)
This card has a heavily played look to it and will have play
whitening present on all 4 edges of the card and also in the
center of the card. Some more major flaws on the fromt of the card,
including priting mistakes, ink stains, or limited writting.
This card would stand out clearly in a deck
of Excellent or near-mint cards. There my be some minor warping,
bending or creases presents as well.
Poor (p)
Poor (P): This card has distinguishing marks, creases, scratches,
holes, bends, or tears. Major writing, large ink stains, or
disfigurations on the back of the card would make it poor. Also
included are miscut, poorly centered, or crimped cards. Cards
that are doctored or altered are also considered poor. Must be
played in a colored sleeve.
Bad (b)
Large holes or missing pieces. Major water or ink damage. This
card can be identified as a magic card but that is about it. This
card would only see use if it was extremely rare or valuable,
and absolutely in a colored sleeve.
