About

1. Documentation of the Development Process

The purpose of this website is an E-Commerce Sports Memorabilia website that allows the visitor to view and buy items available in the store. The Attic Sportscards is a name I use to sell sportscards on eBay. I created this site with a design and process in mind to satisfy the rubric guidelines for the final project. The goal was to create a basic and visually appealing website. I had the idea of using a photo of Fenway Park in Boston as the background to the website but found that it made certain design flaws no matter how much I changed around text color and images. Ultimately I went with a solid background, as this is my first attempt at creating a webpage with HTML. As this is my first website, it took a lot of work (see also, google searches and youtube videos) to even get some of the basics done. It may not meet all the requirements in the Rubric but I sure learned a lot and am very happy with what I have accomplished.

2. Defense of the Final Product

The overall design was meant to keep things simple and easy to understand. I used many photos of different products to create a visual idea of what the store is and what they sell. The decision to keep things simple stemmed from 2 ideas, 1 is that I am new to creating a website and didn't want to over-extend what I was capable of, and the other is the average visitor doesn't need to be overwhelmed by an abundance of items. The idea was to create a website showcasing the stores latest deals and new products with the visitors ability to click on the item and purchase it online, or get tehm to want to visit the physical store. The website would showcase items categorized by sport etc. It would also have information about the store with ours of operation and physical address.

3. Opportunities for Improvement and Growth

The website has major opportunites for growth. With more time to develop I would like to add a submission form for a "Want List" where the customer can send in a form asking for a specific card with set year, number, player name etc. This would allow a customer to contact the store and see if they had an item in their inventory without the hassle of driving to the physical store and asking. Perhaps an inventory search function on the website could accomplish the same goal, I'm not sure if it would be feasible to have an updated inventory, in real-time, on the website. The biggest thing I want to be able to accomplish is making the images clickable and adding a shopping cart to the website. I'm currently working on figuring that stuff out, maybe I will before I submit my final project.
