Jeff Seungmo Hong in Brief


Dr. Jeff Hong is an Associate Professor at the Dept. of Business Management, City University of New York - BMCC.

He earned his PhD in Economics from Fordham University, where he was an adjunct faculty member during 1999-2001.
He also taught Economics at the Graduate School of Business, University of Bridgepoert, Bridgeport, CT 2001-2002, and has been teaching Finance and Management Science at BMCC since 2002.

Quantitative analysis/ modeling is one of his fort? along with a broad range of interests in financial and international economics, and not surprisingly, he published and presented a number of textbooks, papers and articles in the areas of mathematical modeling and macroeconomy in general including a paper on financial economics at the 71st Southern Economic Association Conference in Tampa, Florida on 11/17/2001.

Impact Assessment of Technology is also one of his concentrations, and thus, he presented "IT-based Anti-corruption Efforts of Seoul Metro Government" at Management Techniques for Ethical Governance & Prevention of Corruption: an IEEP Seminar August 7, 2002, Fordham University, New York, NY.

He also published "Factor Analysis of Post-WWII U.S. Foreign Policy" in International Area Review vol.7, No.2 Fall 2004, HUFS, and presented "Engaging & Empowering Students in Finance Education with Technology" at the round table session, Technology Day 2005 , March 30, 2005 as well as "Globalization – Prospects & Concerns" at Joe Doctor Colloquium, April 27, 2006, CUNY, New York, NY.

His activities were not only confined to academia. As a speaker in corporate circles, he presented "U.S. Economy and Exchange Rate Trend" at SparkFX Foreign Exchange Trading Seminar, April 27, 2006, New York, NY.

He has also contributed on regular basis to The Weekly Korea Monitor, a bilingual journal based in Washington DC as well as to The Korea Times and Joongang Daily News, Korean-language press media based in NYC with the following articles:

While he worked on ASSETS grant projects, Dr. Hong developed internet-based service learning modules, and he presented the outcome of the program in a paper titled "Financial Intelligence as ASSETS program" at the 17th Community College National Center for Community Engagement National Conference in Scottsdale, AZ (05/21-23/'08). The paper on Financial Intelligence coauthored with Sidney Askew, Erwin Wong, and Linda Roma is approved for publication in CCNCE proceedings and journal.

He also presents "Using Service Learning and Information Technology in the area of Financial Literacy for High School and College Students" coauthored with Sidney Askew, and Linda Roma at 2008 American Institute of Higher Education Conference (09/24-26/'08 Atlantic City, NJ), which is also approved for publication in the conference proceedings and American Journal of Business Research or American Journal of Educational Studies.

Besides his academic credentials, he has years of work experience in R&D management and technology cooperation; in international trade; in investment consulting. He worked closely in the areas of South Korea's industrial and science & technology policies and conducted researches on a number of related issues (especially information and telecommunications field) from the mid 80's through mid 90's.

He also holds MA International Studies from University of Denver ('94) with specialization in International Economics and concentration in Technology Analysis and Management & MA French Linguistics('88) & BA Liberal Arts('84) from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Seoul, Korea.
