| As it turns out, I am the luckiest man on the planet. I used to know where there was a red '73 capri at this woman's house near my mom's place. I was always after her to sell it to me, 16 years I have stopped by when she was out front asking her if she was ready to part with it. It has been 16 years, by the way, since I started kicking myself for selling my last one. This time it wasn't there, but she was. As it turns out she had signed the car over to her brother, who was sending it to the wrecking yard to be crushed. She told me if I could catch him before he did it, I could have it. I chased it down two cities away, still in 3D, got the title and a bill of sale and now have the car in my name. Wait. It gets better. So the guy tells me, "There's another brown one down the street that this guy at a transmission shop has tried to give me. Tell him I sent you and maybe he'll give it to you." And now I have two. A red '73 Mk1 with a 2L, missing the rear window but with only two small rust patches on its perfectly straight body, and a brown '73 2.6L with all the glass, a servicable interior, and a caved in right rear quarter panel. The brown one isn't driveable, but the red one will be pretty darn quick. I might post this story on the Capriclub website, cause it's just too good to be true. More later. --> Noah ( 2005 Jan 24 ) |
