In the left-hand column (registry tree), open the following branches: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Under 'Run' you should see 'Adaptec DirectCD', double click on the 'Adaptec DirectCD', you should see the value set to 'C:\Program Files\DirecCD\DirectCD.exe' (path may vary if you installed to a different directory), add a ' . ' beginning of the line so it looks like '.C:\Program Files\DirecCD\DirectCD.exe' Close the registry to save the changes and restart Windows 95. To disable the auto-launching of DirectCD for Windows 98 : 1. Click on 'Start', 'Programs', 'Accessories' then 'System Tools' 2. Select 'System Information' 3. Select 'Tools' from the file menu and click on 'System Configuration Utility' 4. Select 'Startup' tab 5. Remove the check mark on the DirectCD. 6. I am getting Blue Screen on startup after installing Iomega Record It software and DirectCD. |
Solution: |
Record It software from IOMEGA conflicts with DirectCD. It uses a cd_read.vxd that causes a Blue Screen error on startup. Once either the Record it or DirectCD is removed, the error goes away. |

How do I use the UDF Reader? |
Solution: |
The UDF Reader driver (also called the Adaptec DirectCD Reader) enables
MultiRead CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives to read DirectCD (UDF) formatted CD-RW discs. To install the UDF Reader on another computer system, copy the udfrinst.exe file to that computer and run the installer by double-clicking the file name in Windows Explorer. Simply follow the instructions on the screen; an installation wizard guides you through the steps. Look for the udfrinst.exe file in the root directory of the installation CD for your recordable CD software. If it is not there, you can download it from the Products|CD-Recordable page of Adaptec's Web site at www.adaptec.com. |

Description: |
Why do I get Lost Data & Unusable Disks when using DirectCD. |
Solution: |
1.Many people are unaware that this is caused when they shut down their
system without ejecting the disk through Direct CD Wizard. There is a small amount of udf
data that must be written to the disk to "finish" the session, even if it is a
re-writeable that cannot be converted to ISO 9660, and if that is not done the disk will
get an "unrecognized disk format" error. 2.The same problem may occur when too much data is written to a UDF formatted CDR disk and then converted to ISO 9660. The overhead taken by the UDF format on CDR media requires: For CDRW media, because it uses fixed length packets to allow for erasing, it is formatted in 64K blocks. These packets require more overhead and results in about 490-495 MB of usable disk space. |

Description: |
I'm having problem with DirectCD when I install a DVD CD-ROM drive, what should I do? |
Solution: |
Some DVD drives load a driver that conflicts with the drivers loaded
for CD writing. In the case of driver conflicts there is rarely a resolution. One possible
fix would be to load the CD writing under a user profile that does not load the DVD. We have also seen some DVD drives that operate under a specific version of aspi, and our software continues to update the aspi layer to the latest version. This should be checked through the manufacturer of the DVD. |

the CD. (Article #990427-0033)
Description: |

Solution: |
If you close a disc to ISO in DirectCD, then add a session in Easy CD Creator, you will not be able to reference the previous session. This is a known limitation of our software which we expect to fix in future versions. |

31-8: Your Computer loses power while writing a CD-RW disc and now the disc is inaccessible.
If you lose power while writing to your CD-RW disc or if you press CTRL+ALT+DEL while writing to the disc, you`ll interrupt session. But you may be able to salvage your disc. Leave your CD-RW disc in the drive, but do not open the CD tray. Turn your computer off and cycle the power back on. Then restart the utility that you were using.
Once the DirectCD utility tries to access the CD-RW drive/disc again, the recovery operation will make it appear that the last session is there, but actually only a part of the CD`s directory may be there. Your recordable CD is still usable if you can read the directory. Just repeat the entire copy operation to make sure your files are copied to the rewritable CD.
31-9: The CD-RW media can not be used when the UDF format is interrupted.
If the power is lost while formatting a CD-RW disc, the disc will become unusable in any application and fail if another format is attempted. To correct this issue, use the DirectCD Full Erase feature to wipe the disc, then try the format operation again.
