Making a Jedi Costume
Making a Jedi costume is not as hard as you might first think.  But, you do need a little bit of skill with a sewing machine.  The basic pattern for my robe you can get from any Jo-Annes fabric shop or from ebay.com.  The picture to the right is what you are looking for.  The robe is a little crappy but, the tunic is good and with a little modification it works realy well.  You will need approximatlt 5 yards of material to make the Tunic with another 2 yards of a different coloured material to make the Dickie. Note that this does not have the pattern for the Trousers (Pants)
Jedi Tunic
The Tunic when completed comes in 4 sections.  The Tunic.  this is the main part.  The Obi or cloth belt.  This wraps around your waist and your utility belt goes over the top of that.  The Dickie.  This goes under your tunic and gives the look as if your costume is multu layered and finally, the Armour or shoulder straps.  These go from the base of your back over your shoulders and tucks in under the Obi.  I have made a new under tunic.  The dickie was ok but it didn't look right
Jedi Cloak
Two things mark out a Jedi one is his Lightsaber the other is his Jedi Cloak.  Every Jedi has one and no mater where you go, just wearing the robe alone people will know you are a Jedi Knight.

I have two robes.  A light weight and a heavier one.   The lighter one cost me $30 on ebay the second one was made from a pattern from a friend of mine.  I altered the pattern to make it more like the one in the prequal films.  It is very heavy and in the spring and summer time very warm.  I have even been known to wear the thicker robe during cold New York winter nights.
These two pictures were taken at the Syracuse Star Trek/Star Wars Conventiuon on May 30th 2003.  This was the first time I had worn the completed costume.  The Salt City Jedi were out in force and we had more photo opertunities than the stars.  Apart fropm the heat it was a great day out.
Jedi Pants
For my costume I used an old pair of pants from a Karate Gi (suit).  All I did was to add a zip to the front of the pants.  It's bloody hard having to go to the toilet with all your costume on and adding the zip makes it a lot easier.  A very easy and cheap way to get a piar off Jedi pants.  especially for me because I have studied Martial Arts for over 25 years and have many old pairs of Gi bottoms to cut up and use.
.The darker one was reshaped to make it more like the films.  The lighter one was also modified by making it shorter and by putting extra material in the hood so it billows out and doesn't stick to my head.  The lighter one can be made from modifying the cloak from the pattern.

The great thing about this little con was we all got to meet Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca).  Ethan Phillips, (Neelix from Voyager) and Robert Picardo (The Doctor in Voyager)  and  Rick Searfoss (NASA Shuttle Astronaut. Columbia Pilot and Commander of the Atlantis Space Shuttle)........ Very cool
