Jean Rogers in
The Second Woman (1951)
with Robert Young
Summary:
Still recovering from the tragic death of his fiancee, Jeffrey (Robert Young) finds happiness again when he meets his new neighbor, Ellen.
The two quickly fall for each other, even though death and destruction comes to everything the man loves.
Afraid that she will meet the same violent death as those around him, Jeffrey begins to push her away.
The young woman discovers that these fatal "accidents" are actually deliberate acts and his doctor suspects that Jeffrey
is suffering from mental illness and is committing the murders in a self-destructive blackout. Unable to believe that he is
capable of such brutality, Ellen chases through a labyrinth of deceit to discover the motive behind the killings.
(From back of DVD Case)
Summary:
In flashback from a 'Rebecca'-style beginning: Ellen Foster, visiting her aunt on the California coast,
meets neighbor Jeff Cohalan and his ultramodern clifftop house. Ellen is strongly attracted to Jeff,
who's being plagued by unexplainable accidents, major and minor. Bad luck, persecution...or paranoia?
Warned that Jeff could be dangerous, Ellen fears that he's in danger, as the menacing atmosphere darkens.

Eye On Jean:
The significance of this movie is that it is Jean Rogers' last appearance on the silver screen.
She was about 35 years old when the movie was released.
The movie is a fairly good mystery, but Jean Rogers has a small supporting role.
She first appears about 20 minutes into the film, then reappears for
a total of about 5 minutes over the next 15 minutes of the film.
In a Films In Review magazine article,
she said of the part "They cut it a great deal. It was much bigger, but they cut it."
There is one incomplete scene in the DVD that looks like it was left out because the film broke
during the transfer to video. Either that or it was a poor editing job by the studio.
Buy this movie if you like mysteries or want to own a copy of Jean Rogers' last movie.
