Laura Bow is a 20 year old reporter for the Tribune, a daily New York news paper. She is a very courageous individual, which is proven by the way she doesn't quietly slip into the dark when people claim that she can't be a reporter 'cause she's a girl. It's also proven by her enigmatic ability to solve the mysteries that are set before her. Especially when she's told specifically to stay away in the Dagger Of Amon Ra.
Her mother died when she was very young and she was raised by her father, John Bow, an ex-cop. Being raised in New Orleans, she's is completely unprepared for the dangers of New York streets, and apon arrival, not only is her luggage stolen, but all the money she has is taken from her at gunpoint. This does not distroy her very optimistic view of the world, or dash any of her hopes for the future.
She's also very enthusiastic, which reminds me a little of Lucy, from "I Love Lucy" although Laura isn't quite as much a jinx. (Although one might argue this point, considering around twenty people have been murdered in her presence.)
Laura's very professional about her job, and doesn't drink, smoke, or eat meat. (She's a vegetarian). And she rarely dates guys. We first saw her with a man in The Dagger Of Amon Ra, when Steve asked her out. Even then, she was reluctant to go out with him, but agreed to, since he'd tried so hard to try and find her and because she felt something special about him. (Awww.)
Regardless of her sometimes exagerated enthusiasm, Laura Bow is one of the best characters ever thought up and is also a great role model for any girls striving for equality.
