Al Ham Weekend: No its Not A Terrorist Activity, its A Drinking Binge!
A Guest Essay by Timothy Van der Voort
One of the more highly-valued qualities of Hamilton College is the apparent strong sense of community held by the majority of students.  Admissions officers and Hamilton administrators aggree that this quality is an integral part of what makes this a high-caliber institution.  However the source of this sense of community is one of the other integral yet less appreciated aspects of the school.  When the weekend and the absurdly good weather that Hamilton rarely experiences come around, the typical Hamilton student doesnt just get fucked up, they get fucked up as a community.
This was easily observed this past weekend as students all over campus threw on their flip-flops, empied the books out of their backpacks and filled them with beer.  In front of most dorms students chugged beers and sipped mixed drinks while sunning themselves, always with a frisbee zipping overhead.
Campus safety paid little mind however, just passing through to say hello to the kids outside having fun.  I skipped class due to the unprecedented good weather only to return to a partying campus and to find that my professor had also decided to cancel for the day.  The weather here usually sucks so much that when we finally get a few nice days, it becomes a holiday.  Also with the stress of upcoming finals, students are kicking back harder than ever.
The Al Ham Weekend celebration was not entirely composed of substance abuse, as the college paid for
several crappy bands and inflatable moon-bounce.  If the college were to pay for a couple hundred kegs, put them on a stage and let the students drink them, wed have more fun and it would save everybody money.
Everyone at Hamilton was guaranteed an excellent weekend if they were looking for one, but if you want to be able to identify the kids that did the most partying outside this weekend, look for their sunburn from when they blacked out on the grass.
Andy and JP give into the passion of the moment. That just ain't right.
I have no idea what Tim is doing.
Lets all look sober for the camera.
