| Playing Rules | |
We play "Better Ball" format, in this case 2 better balls in foursome. So, each foursome is a team, playing "Match Play" format and counting 2 better scores. We use USGA rules, amended by the Course rules, further amended by the Group, as follows: Winter rules ,(Roll over in your own fairway), no conceded putts into the leather, except where score will not count in the 2 ball competition. Remember, the lost ball rule is the same as the rule for OB, except where the score will not count in the 2 ball competition, In other words if your ball is not going to be one of the 2 better balls, you may prefer longer gimmies, and drops, rather than return to last hit areas. This helps to speed up the game , and Equity Stroke Control, (see “DO THE MATH”), will still apply. If you are purists, and these rules bother you, say so, you can, “play by The Book”, and play in the last foursome. |

| Setting up the teams | |
Matching up foursomes is a task, made easier by earlier confirmation of play. Therefore, if you play this week, you are automatically in for next week, unless you SAY no. Conversely , if you are out this week, you are out forever, unless you SAY you want in. On Monday morning, we put the teams together, and update the web page. On Tuesday we will edit the "Home" page , on the web , send the FAX to the golf course, and print scorecards. If you don’t see your name call Bob Welch. Team captains are the lowest numbered player on each team., (fewest percent of times as chauffeurs), except (0), which is reserved for those who will drive themselves, or rookies. Capt should call other three players by Mon. evening. If you are not contacted by then, start calling your other team mates to determine who is playing and who is driving. Call Bob Welch if there are any changes to the team.. If you haven’t been called by Tues. evening, or don't see your name, call Bob Welch, you may have been forgotten. If you decide at last minute to play, call to see if there is an opening, we usually have one or two threesomes. Guests are always welcome, let us know, so we can include them.

| Random Sort | |
We use a computer generated, random sort, to pick teams, and starting holes. This gives the “A” players, a chance to play together, and the other groups too. Trying to make up teams by grouping “A” with “B” etc., then trying to avoid repeats, then attempting, to not start players on the same hole, week to week, was getting near impossible. The new system assures random selection of teammates, and starting holes, but has no built in program to avoid week to week rematches, except by chance. There are two exceptions to random selection. The first is, that either Bob Welch, or myself, will continue to go on the first tee, so that, the one of us who is last out of the pro shop to play, doesn’t have to run the gauntlet to one of the back nine holes. Also, if that person can get to the restaurant early, he can have a bite to eat, before going over the scorecards and awarding prizes. The second exception, is for guests, who may wish to play in the same foursome with a host. You must let us know of this, before 9:00 AM Monday, otherwise they just have to fill in, where there is room.

| Game Day | |
On Wednesday morning prior to play, please check in at the table where Bob Welch has set up office. Check in is made a lot easier by having one player from each team pay the prize fee for all four, and advise Bob who was the driver, and who will not play next week. First team out, take "closest to pin sign". After golf, meet at the Restaurant and turn in your scorecards, with individual totals, adjusted to "ESC", see "Handicapping", and team scores, to Bob. Last team in, bring card from "closest to pin " sign, and leave the holder with the ranger.. Jim D
