Welcome to the Martha Ann Smith Harris pages of the Hyrum Smith Family Association web site. This site has been created as a service for members of the family to retrieve and submit information that will be useful to all members of the family. The efforts made on these web pages will be coordinated with the Hyrum Smith,     Joseph Smith, Sr., and the Joseph F. Smith web sites so as to not duplicate the information being provided. Family Reunions in 2001 The William Jasper Harris and Martha Ann Smith Harris Family Reunion will be held the second of August at 10:00 a.m. at The Bowery in the This is the Place Heritage Park, Salt Lake City - $10.00 children, $15.00 adults, make checks to Harris Family Reunion. The Joseph Smith Sr. and Lucy Mack Smith Reunion will be held on the second of August at 5:00 p.m. at the Joseph Smith Memorial Center, Temple Square, Salt Lake City. For details, contact Buddy Youngreen at (1)(800) 226-6561. Harris Family web pages have been set up at the level of the first, second, and third generations. There also are a few pictures, from the collection of cousin Carole Call King that you may find of interest. Ancestry Pages We have provided a subset of webpages devoted to the earliest known ancestors in our Harris Family line, also. Some of the information in those pages is quite new to most of us. The Ancestry pages will provide updates as new information about those generations comes to our attention. In particular, there are a couple of genealogical research papers posted there that genealogy buffs in the family will find of interest. In mid-June, 2001, we added Family Pages reached by clicking on the "Family" item in the navigation bar at the top and bottom of each page in the website. These pages were designed to look exactly the same, until such time as members of the specific second and third generation families provide materials to be posted on them. Family Organization Charter The William Jasper Harris family formally set up a family organization many years ago. For many years the William J. Harris Family Society. arranged family reunions that were held on a regular basis. Carole Call King, currently our genealogy expert for the website, provided a copy of the document that organized the "Family Society." The document hotlinked above does not indicate the date or place where the formal family association was approved, but if any member of the family has any idea, please send us your information. Copies of Sermons & Writings of Hyrum Smith by James T. Summerhayes are still available. If you have any ideas for items to be placed on the web site, please contact Doug Paulson, webmaster of this site, at [email protected]. We would particularly appreciate scanned copies of pictures, portraits, or other items that may be of interest to members of the extended family, as well as letters, biographical sketches, family histories, etc. on each of the children and their spouses, as well as the children and spouses of those families. On request, the webmaster will assist any family in the Harris line to set up a family website that can be linked to and from this site. We will limit the families posted on this site to those now covered in the Family Pages.
