Testimony of a Teddy Bear

I, her best friend, and she, my keeper,
We were never apart; no friendship was deeper.
I brought her smiles, and she made mine
Playing dress-up time after time.
But our smiles faded, and she became sad
Because her mommy and daddy were always mad.
She said, Youll never leave me. Well never fight.
Why wont Mom and Dad stop, night after night?
Then Daddy moved away and never came again.
Mommy fell into a sore depression.
There was no one to stop her very mean sister
From being cold, cruel, and bitter.

In a new family, in a new home
Theres all one can want. Shes never alone.
She has new sisters and brothers
Who, despite all, love each other.
But then her mommy and step-dad started to fight,
And she heard their shouts many cold nights.
Im not there to comfort her, though,
Like a good friend, so
Ill just sit here and hope
That she wont lose hope.

I wish she could know
How they love her so.
She grew up too quickly because
No one else was.
