| The God machine are: Robin-Proper Sheppard - guitar/vocals Jimmy Fernandez - bass Ron Austin - drums/piano History.... In their last summer of high school, in San Diego, USA, Ron, and Jimmy began to jam together, along with a freind. Albert Amman. Not playing covers, but choosing to go with a noise jam, they developed a sound. Over that summer they got more into it, and recruited Robin, who also went to their school, (in Chula Vista), as their singer. They formed a band called 'Society Line'. . They played out often and put out a demo, continuing to evolve their sound into heavy, atmospheric riffs and rhythms. Robin started playing the guitar at this point which added to the complexity and depth of the music. Robin, was unsatisfied with life, and decided to go to New York, where he spent many nights endlessly playing his guitar, wary of his neighbourhood. He came back after a few months, and reunited with the band who had kept playing without him. Albert Amman chose to finish his degree while the others set-off for New York. They travelled the US. They stayed a month or so in NY, and then decided on the spur of the moment, to come to England. They arrived with 100, two acoustics and Jimmys bass. After a short trip to Amsterdam, they met someone who lived in Camden, and offered to put them up, it was then that they got to work, under the namesaving money to buy equiptment, and writing new material. They played their first gig January 23rd, 1991. 1994, Prague. The band had just finished recording their 2nd album. Jimmy is suddenly rushed to hospital, falls into coma, and passed away that day from a brain tumour. He was 28. (R.R.I.P.) Robin and Ron still live in London but broke up the band straight after Jimmys death, understandably unable to continue. Ron directs, writes & produces films. Robin runs a record label called Flowershop, and has a band called 'Sophia' whos music is mainly acoustic, and is still haunted by the same themes. UPDATE! Sophia have a new album out (August 2002) so will they be touring?
