Only the rams have horns.  Water is essential for this antelope to survive.  Rams are territorial and will defend their territories.

The mountain reedbuck is somewhat smaller than the common reedbuck.  Like their name suggests they are found on the hillsides but they avoid open mountain areas.  They prefer areas with trees and bushes. Constant water is also a habitat requirement.

When alarmed they whistle distinctively by blowing air through their nostrils, and then run away with long jumps while lifting their tails to display the white underneath.

Rams have territories and they defend these against other rams.  The ewes and lambs form small herds and these move through the territories of different rams.  Lambs are born throughout the year with a peak in October.  The ewes leave the herd to have their lambs.  They hide them away and return once or twice a day to feed them.  To prevent predators from finding them the lambs would find a new hiding place after every visit from their mother.
