Bushbucks are generally nocturnal animals and confine themselves to thick bush and riverine forests throughout the subcontinent.

They are well camouflaged with their distinctive markings and blend in with their surroundings.  Lambs are born throughout the year but are seldom seen because their mothers hide them away in the dense undergrowth.  They are loners but are sometimes seen in groups of two to three.

Only the rams have very sharp horns and they use these very effectively in fights with other rams, often to the death.  Wounded rams are dangerous and have already injured many hunters when cornered.
