The most common species found in the Kruger National Park.  During 1985 there was about 138 500 of them found in the Kruger National Park.

They are medium sized and very graceful.  Only the rams have horns and the average length is between 40 - 60cm.  The world record used to be 80,97cm.

When in danger, the whole herd would dart away in different directions with gracious jumps of up to 12 meters in distance.  They would then regroup later.

Their breeding season follows the seasons exactly and all the lambs are born in the springtime after the first summer rains.  Many of these lambs fall prey to the predators.  Because so many of them are born simultaneously, the majority of them survives.

Another subspecies, the "black faced Impala" are found in Namibia.
